Again, Sony won't be wasting money in putting cell's and emotion engines inside PS4 and emulation of PS2 games is still sketchy at best and PS3 emulation is a no go.

PS1 will more than likely be compatible since its pretty easy to emulate with software and won't add a cost to manufacturing.

Remember next gen consoles need to be simple and cheap.

And they can use gaikai for the full back catalog of every single game (although they likely won't have them all available thanks to licensing issues) and Gaikai have teased a revolutionary new way to pay to play. What it is is anyones guess.

My guess is it will bepart of your PS+ subscription. I wouldn't mind paying £50 a year for that!

In a way, instant game collection is almost a stealth beta for Gaikai. When PS4 launches it wont have the library of games to be given away free like on PS3, but if Gaikai was included then thats your instant game collection covered from day one as well as full BC, albeit not perfect.

I would go out on a limb and say they are willing to alienate the small number of people (realitively) who still play their ps1/2 games that don't have those respective machines. I highly doubt bc will be included, since they scrapped bc for the ps3.

Personally I dont really care about PS1 and 2 backwards compatibility. I dont play PS1 games at all anymore and I like what Sony is doing with the HD remixes of PS2 titles. However I do care about PS3 backwards compatibility and all of the dlc from the PS store. I would hate to think that all that content wouldnt carry over to PS4. That all that time, money, and effort that I spent investing in the PS3 and PSN ecosystem would suddenly become a big do over on PS4.

All the other meetings were so I don't see why not. It'll most likely be streamed at the link in the first post and the PS blog.

Maybe GTTV will get exclusive or even IGN

Plus we will always have a ton of live blogs and pics from the event in a worst case situation.

Yep, back in 2005 Playstation meeting revealed the PS3 to the world. Then 2011s meeting revealed NGP and Uncharted GA.

I dont belive the 2005 one was live streamed, I could be wrong. But 2011 was definately live streamed.

I dont think we will be given a release date or price. They will probably leave that for E3 or later.

Sony Trademarks “BigFest” – Social Networking For The PS4?

Sony’s up to something – a recently published trademark for “BigFest” suggests that the platform holder is thinking seriously about social networking, and appears to be attempting to build its own. The trademark was filed last February, but only published for opposition at the beginning of 2013 and picked up by IGN.

You can search for it here if you wish but the juicy stuff is that BigFest will be a hosting platform for online facilities, including interactive gameplay, websites of others and – potentially – games that others have built. Think LittleBigPlanet, perhaps, but on the web, although that might well be a little off the mark in terms of scope.

The filing also mentions “introduction and social networking services” and “introducing video game players to each other for the purposes of playing multiplayer games online, participating in online games communities and competitions, and online player networking and social introduction.” That sounds pretty cool, and it’s something that Home always promised but never really seemed to deliver.

The trademark was set up by SCEE’s main London offices, and that’s where Home was built, along with most of the PlayStation 3′s more family-friendly output. It’s not clear exactly what BigFest is, but it sounds like being a big social hub for gamers wanting to meet other gamers, show off their creative talents and try out new things. It’s almost certainly for PlayStation 4, but we’ll wait and see.

Chances are we’ll be hearing about this at E3.

PS4 revealed at PlayStation Meeting ahead of 2013 release

PlayStation 4 is indeed what Sony has up its sleeve for this month’s PlayStation Meeting and the new console itself will release this year, according to whispers.

The Wall Street Journal cites “people familiar with the matter” for its claims; the publication’s sources also said Microsoft’s new console will release before the end of 2013.

The report goes on to say the new PlayStation console will incorporate more social features, with Sony concentrating on improving how users interact with the machine instead of just beefing up its power.

The whisperers said Sony and Microsoft both considered dropping an optical disk drive altogether but scrapped plans thanks to the size of game downloads and the poor speed of Internet connections in many important territories.

The sources reiterated past rumours that the heart of the new machine is a AMD tech, cautioning that a non-Cell processor will cause compatibility issues with the current generation’s catalogue.

Sony today called a PlayStation Meeting for February 20 where it is tipped to unveil a new console. Its last PlayStation Meeting, in 2011, debuted the Vita, almost a year ahead of its release.
