Yeah I just added it to my cart over at ImportCD's...I think they have it for the same price, $16.93 I think.

I feel quite lucky. Not only does our national film museum show classic exploitation/ sexploitation/ horror at least once a month, like a Bava double-feature or some Carpenter movies, but we also have a small theater that started a dedicated 35mm horror/ exploitation festival this year. They have been showing genuine prints of movies like Pieces, Re-animator, Invasion of the Blood Farmers etc. etc. - even some of the last surviving prints of the SS Ilsa movies.
You ARE totally lucky !!....Nothing like that would EVER fly here in Delaware....Especially in Dover......Take the D out of Dover... and its all over

The little cult cinema, I wrote about, has also shifted focus to digital projection, in some instances even going so far as just showing a DVD (I am looking at you, Paranormal Activity 2: Tokyo Nights!). So I don't really go there unless I am absolutely certain they have a real print.

Luckily, a couple of the people behind the theater are big fans of celluloid, too, and collect prints themselves. One of them is Jack Stevenson, an American expat who has written numerous articles and a couple of books on cult cinema. He will often do special shows with 16mm, 35mm movies, advertisements, old public service films etc. E.g. he might show a double-feature of drugs-related movies and then show an old US army film about the dangers of using LSD when you have duty the next day, as a filler in-between.

I am really looking forward to see what they do for Halloween this year. Last year, Jack showed his print of The House on Haunted Hill and had rigged up the original William Castle gimmick with a skeleton that came flying in above our heads on a string at the appropriate moment in the movie.
THAT'S AWESOME !!! You lucky so and so !!!!!!!

No release date yet, but FINALLY some info on the behind the scene of Grindhouse's version of The Big Gundown!

http://www.truewestmagazine.com/jcon...g-for-treasure

Here are the more interesting grabs from the article:

-Bob Murawski first began exploring getting the rights to The Big Gundown from Sony while working on their intial Spider-Man trilogy.

-Grindhouse's edition may be a hybrid of Sony's print which "was so beautiful", as well as the Italian print from "a new video master"

-Apparently a 16mm TV print of the English language version has additional dialogue missing from the traditional 89-minute US cut, which will be integrated into the main English dub to match the full 110 minute Italian cut. The article doesn't say if it has ALL of the dialogue missing from the 89 minute version, but it's known among fans that there are a few extra scenes of English dubbing present in some of the European VHS releases.

Overall, this sounds like it could be the ultimate version of the film. I *almost* bought the recently released German Blu-ray, but it sounds like this edition will trump it! Now, all we need is a release date As of now, it seems like Grindhouse is releasing one blu per month (American Hippie in September, Corruption this month, etc), so hopefully we'll see The Big Gundown before Christmas!

That is awesome. Hopefully Cannibal Holocaust will be out around the same time. I was tempted to buy the UK release, but in all honesty, it looks rather dull (screencaps, that is).

I'm kinda glad they announced Ferox first. Holocaust is obviously the better movie, but Ferox is its own kind of sleaze. Hooks through the tits? One of the grisliest dickapitations I've seen? And if I recall, the DVD was pretty abysmal. (I sold most of my Grindhouse DVDs, teardrop.) Gonna be awesome to see that beast in HD.

And I'm glad there are avenues to get these limited releases much cheaper than MSRP. Amazon obviously isn't such a retailer; you're better off going through Diabolik DVD or ImportCDs, etc.

I just hope within a few years we'll have almost their full existing DVD catalog on BD, along with previously unreleased titles like Gone with the Pope and that. Glad to see so much action from Grindhouse lately. RIP, Sage; your legacy lives on.

Cannibal Ferox is pure crap compared to Cannibal Holocaust. It's a cheap, cash grab sequel.

You've just described just about every Italian splatter movie made after 1975. Actually, FEROX is one of the better ones and I think they complement eachother. Whatever HOLOCAUST doesn't show you, Ferox does, lol.

good point. IMO Italian horror is the rare example where this approach works beautifully.

$26.99 from Diabolik DVD (before shipping). I'm sure there will be cheaper options still.

Boy, Grindhouse are really speeding things up. Three releases this year. Back in the DVD days that would have taken them, what, nine years give or take...

The Big Gundown looks like an excellent deal. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us next year. Hopefully Cannibal Ferox AND Holocaust.

Wow I'm surprised. Now a third one only 2 months away! Keep it up! Although the limited quantity and outrageous prices worry me. I'd pay that much for Cannibal Holocaust and Pieces, but for movies like these that are even more obscure and unheard of, I can't see spending that much. Does anyone know if Corruption is going to be limited?
