I gotta go with 1982 on this one, especially since I was eleven years old when I experienced it, so nostalgia is firmly on the side of my vote.
But I'm gonna go farther and lump in a few of the theatrical re-releases we got that same year. If you count THOSE (which you shouldn't, lol), then the year went like this for an impressionable movie-loving 11-year old: May The Road Warrior June 4th Poltergeist Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan June 11th E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial June 25 Blade Runner John Carpenter's The Thing July 9 Tron July 14 Pink Floyd The Wall August 13 Friday the 13th Part III in 3D October 22 First Blood AND, in August and September, we had theatrical re-releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Phenomenal year to live through and be a Starlog subscriber. ![]() Last edited by steel_breeze; 06-14-2024 at 02:47 PM. |

I can't name a specific year, but the early to mid-1990's were a very special time for me. I was born in 1980, so the following decade was some of my first formative years, and movies I loved then became a core part of my emotional identity. I connected very powerfully with comic fare such as The Rocketeer, The Shadow, The Crow, and The Phantom. But there were also Disney classics like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King (though I personally loved Hercules due to James Woods' hilarious role as Hades). I also give major props to the studio for making The Hunchback of Notre Dame - even though they vastly reworked the story for the sake of a "family film", some very serious issues were still addressed, including pariah attitudes, racism, religious extremism, and especially Biblical attitudes toward unchecked lust (evidenced most prominently with the character of Frollo's obsession regarding Esmerelda).
Other favorite films during the '90s include Terminator 2, A Few Good Men, Sister Act, Jurassic Park, The Fugitive, Sleepless in Seattle, The Mask, Casper, Jumanji, Independence Day, Twister, and Mission: Impossible. 1995 introduced me to the James Bond series with GoldenEye, in which I became immediately transfixed with Famke Janssen as "Xenia Onatopp" (I was very hormonal at 15, and her appearance in the first X-Men five years later helped balance that out a bit). |

There are 1982 film festivals for goodness sakes. Not just the amount of great films but the overall quality of them. |
