Gentlemen, you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is one of my favorite DVDs, and it's one of the few from my old collection that I have not sold yet, because I don't want to part with it until a Blu-ray shows up.

I love the Mary Poppins cover art.

That cover's a little... glitzy?

Glad to see it's coming to Blu though!

The cover definitely is a tip of the hat to the original movie poster art with the typography. Just wish it was a little less MOR though.

Also, quick question....

What do you all reckon about the wires being painted out?
I personally thought they should have stayed, but that's just me. Not my call.
Hope everyone likes it. Was bloody hard work but I think it paid off.

I understand what you mean about the wires, but I kind of like that they are painted out. Seeing the wires, especially when she shoots out of the chimney, bothered me a bit because my eyes couldn't help focusing on them each time.

Looking forward to the new restoration! Glad you are pleased with it. There was a digital print shown in XD at Cinemark theaters here in the states last fall. I'd never seen this particular print before and the detail and purity on the IMAX screen was stunning! The opening credits looked a little rough though and were overly grainy. Otherwise it was remarkable. Do you think this have been the newly restored print you worked on, FrameFecker? It was shown in mid October of 2012 as a special event and had the original Buena Vista title card at the beginning.

I don't mind the wires being painted out in movies too much. technically, that was how it was supposed to look on screen. So now you see it as intended (no, Disney didn't really want you to see the wires). Yes, some of you will argue that it takes away from the charm and 'movie magic'; but to me it's not that big of a deal. Now if they go change things (ala Star Wars), that can be different .

Good call on that shot. I know it well. To me, that's a no brainer. Those wires have to go. Super easy to do too. haha.
But there are some times where I consider wires and things to be part of the aesthetics, and leaving them in is, to me, a nod as to how they did it all back in the day. Before computers and stuff.
I never get invited to any of this cool screening stuff. Nor my mates that worked for months on these things. No love. So I have no idea.
Opening shots? Yeah, grubby as ****. Just don't watch it in blue channel only. You will go insane.

*edit* what that person above me just posted - totally agree. They just put it better.

So what features wont be carried over from the dvd release ?

I'm sure it'll be a saccharin overload. Hope to goodness we don't have a Disney channel star(let)s doing any modern musical numbers re-interpretations as seemed to be so popular on Disney dvd releases of yore.

Super!

I do wish they would leave Walt Disney's personal credit on the packaging though.

More of Walt's classic films needed on Blu-ray:

Swiss Family Robinson
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Pollyanna
The Parent Trap!
Darby O' Gill and the Little People
Treasure Island
Old Yeller
The Three Lives of Thomasina
Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow
The Absent-Minded Professor
The Shaggy Dog
That Darn Cat!
The Moon-Spinners
Summer Magic
In Search of the Castaways

Also (after Walt):
The Love Bug
Bedknobs and Broomsticks

Etc.

Great list! The only 2 films I could add are The Black Hole and The Last Flight of Noah's Ark.

I've never seen any of the movies on that list (I know, I know, I just was never exposed to much of Disney's live action catalogue growing up), but the bolded ones are the movies I plan on blind buying. Hopefully since Disney is rushing out their animated catalogue, they can now start to focus on their live action films.

SFR, Pollyanna, Lovebug and Bedknobs were completely restored about 3 years ago. That much I know for sure. No idea on release dates.

I'm not sure I like that art - it looks too much like the presentation for a musical (which is kinda funny as there was a musical adaptation years later) - I hope the BD includes the restored 2.0 theatrical track (included "dialogue previously unheard on the original audio track" apparently) and the 2004 DVD extras.
Cant belive I bought it 6 years ago or something!

Were all the Herbie movies restored? I know I've seen the Love Bug and Herbie Goes Bananas on HDNet Movies, but not Herbie Rides Again or Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo.
