I don't get the DTS 5.1 audio. Would it really have killed Acorn to spring for a BD-25 for the extras, so that we could get DTS-HD MA 5.1 on the eight episodes?

In any event, isn't this still a stereo-mixed show? I guess I'll watch with the LPCM 2.0 track...

I had a flick between them as I watched the entire set today and whilst the 2.0 track had more depth and better range, Ólafur Arnalds' score is easily the highlight of the audio, and it does shout for the 5.1 track. At least the DTS track is full bitrate, and not 756kbps.

I would guess the LPCM 2.0 is the original mix.

How the characters are affected and how they react are just as important, if not moreso, than the getting to the bottom of the mystery.
I think that is the intent. I didn't really like the second season as it progressed though. I think they over complicated things by introducing a second murder case and the new characters introduced were kind of ridiculous. It hints at something sinster but then it turn outs to be something ho hum and ends up with every character crying to add emotion to the show. I haven't seen so much crying one show. It's a bit like watching The Killing. Apart from this, has it actually been established who the killer is?

FYI to the US folks who import but don't have region-free players...

Season 3 is also region free, just in case you were wondering.

Well, it works on a Region A player, at least. Someone else will have to check out Region C.

From what you are saying, all 3 Seasons are Region Free Correct? Also, I'm surprised there hasn't been an announcement for a U.S. release of all 3 Seasons on blu-ray. The show is a hit over here in the states and I know BBC America is about to broadcast Series 3 here in a few weeks!

From searching around this thread, it seems like we're good as long as we aren't using Sony players. I'll be using my Xbox One S, so I assume it'll run fine. Confirmation from someone else using an X1 would be appreciated though. I have a multi-region player for backup, but I always prefer to purchase BDs that will work with region A players.

The reason why it fails on Sony players is because although Broadchurch is region free like most UK TV BDs it is encoded as 1080i50, so matching it's TV broadcast in the UK.

Sony for some reason don't do a frame rate conversion in their players so rely on the TV to handle the frame rate of the disk and virtually all US TVs can't handle 50fps interlaced content as the US uses 60fps.

Other players like Oppo will convert this to 60fps so viewable on US TVs.

I could have sworn that I posted about this five whole years ago but it seems I didn't.

Did nobody else spot the audio dropout in the middle of a line of dialogue, 26 minutes into series 2, episode 7?

"(...) investigation [was] fundamentally flawed"

The word "was" and indeed all other sound is momentarily missing due to a dropout. This occurs on both the 2.0 and 5.1 audio tracks, so you can't even switch tracks to avoid it.

The issue does not occur on the streaming version currently up on ITVX. It is very irritating that it happens on the Blu-ray Disc version I paid for.

Does this affect every copy or was it perhaps limited to the first pressing of the discs or something? I had mine replaced and the replacement was identical.

I don't know if it affects every copy, but I just checked mine and it does the same thing.

I just checked mine, audio drop occurs on 2.0 but not on the 5.1
