Hmm, the only reason why I'm excited for this release is so I can get the slipcover, mine is damaged to hell, I bought it used though.

I think a nice, holofoil embossed/debossed slipcover would be great for this release. Not sure about a lenticular slip though

1) Actually Touchstone handles them. Which is separate from the animated movies distribution. So, it's entirely possible for one to release stacked and the other not with little to no consistency.

2) While I agree it's not optimal, it's really not that big of deal. This is not the thread for this discussion, you already have one of those. And, Disney can charge whatever they want, we obviously still pay for it. There are much bigger things in the world than whether or not your 4th disc might scratch in 10 years. I'd say first world problems, but I pay extra for slipcovers, so I really can't.

You've got to be kidding me.

Touchstone is a brand within Disney.

Yes, I know. However, it's a different distribution channel. The way Disney produces you can have a release from Touchstone look very different from a release from Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Edit: Although, Touchstone did fold everything into Disney recently and is no longer a distinctive brand. So going forward, releases would be much more similar. So your prediction isn't totally off the wall. I just don't agree with it.

ANYWAY. Back on topic.

So, they've pushed back Maleficient to a July '14 release. Which has these two releasing at the same time. I'm debating if that's rushing this release or if they've actually done some work to make this worth everyone's time and money.

I just bought this on ebay early this year and watched it for the first time two weeks ago. I feel like the kid that gets all excited because he got the last slice of pizza only to find out that a new, fresh pizza is just being brought out.

What a hilariously appropriate simile.

I guess that works out if you make a good profit and don't necessarily care about packaging, the disc art, or if the bonus features from the version that you currently have carry over to the new one (the latter of which being the biggest concern to me).

I won't sell mine since Disney has been cheaping out on their releases more recently.

It really depends on whether or not anything is actually going to be added to this new release. If not, you're still in good shape.

I just want all the bonus features to stay in tact! Alas, it probably won't.

Sounds though like you'll just buy it again plus a few more other blus with the extra money. Who's the real hoarder then?

Likewise. I actually bought it for under $15 a few months ago.

Thumbs up

Count me in as one of the Blu-ray late-comers who missed out on this the first time 'round (along with Pinocchio, Snow White & Fantasia), and am excited to finally get another crack at it. I predicted a while back that these earlier releases would likely be "un-vaulted" sooner than usual, since Disney's blowing through it's animated movies pretty quickly on Blu, with not much left as we approach the end of next year, and since Blu was in it's very early stages, and far less mainstream, back in ''08 when SB initially hit.

I'd been contemplating nabbing SB online for the past year or two, but the prices usually gave me a bit of pause (I'm obviously missing those $15 deals you guys found), so I'm glad my patience paid off and my theory was correct on it's pending re-release. Where this puts the "status" of Aladdin and 101D is really the only question, as to whether they'll still get Diamond status, or be delayed even further, or perhaps 3 Diamonds in a year... Who knows? Hopefully Pinocchio & Fantasia get similar treatment when all is said and done. That'd just leave Snow White for me track down.

Either way, we'll all have complete Disney BD collections by mid-2015, I'm sure. I've probably got enough to tide me over 'til then...

Just checking Ebay right now and there are plenty of copies that range anywhere from $15-20 for buy it now. Granted not many probably come with a slipcover, but if that's not your thing it can still be had for a decent price.

Generally speaking, I'm not a slip-snob (I get them when I can), but when it comes to my Disney BDs, I do like to have them all slipped, just to keep the whole line-up uniform. I'm looking for new too, not used, so that may be why I haven't been seeing SB in that same $15-20ish range that you guys are talking about. Granted, now that I know a Diamond Edition is en route, I'd prefer that one, even if it's essentially identical to the earlier Platinum version.

Thanks for the head's up though. Now if Snow White would just fall into that range, I'd be one happy guy!

Um....

Hmmmmmm....

[contemplates]

If there is a cool steelbook that is different from the last one, I might go for a double dip.

The last release was fantastic and this might be gilding the lily.
