Look, I have a 16 year old daughter, and I hear some of her friends talking. No depth of stupidity would surprise me from people today. No offense,Jaymole, don't take it personally!

I think the idea of films aging is pretty absurd. You can't expect an older movie to look, think and act like a movie made today . . . but why should that interfere with your enjoyment of it? It's my job as a viewer to mentally readjust for those times, not to have the movie change to satisfy me.

When I watch an old classic like King Kong ('33) or even a silent, I don't see a dated film -- I see a product of it's own time. It doesn't matter that the technology, or the styles or the attitudes have changed. If the story and the performances are good, the movie is good, period.

Surely I'm not the only one who has aged horribly from reading this thread?

Not at all, I understand. I thought my initial post was so absurd that it would not be taken seriously. When it was, I just ran with it

If wormraper did not make that post, I was going to have a picture of MLK saying...Freed the slaves!! Freed the slaves!! God Almighty I Freed the Slaves!!!

Aged horribly:

-Shakespere in Love (Good film, has aged terribly)
-The Terminator (Again, good film but looks so 80's it's not even funny)
-Gladiator (Definitely feels dated)
Terminator stands out due to the 80's style - the unneccessary sex scene in the middle of the film is a prime example of that. Compare it to Aliens and you will see what I mean - you can't tell when Aliens was filmed but Terminator screams 1980s.

Unnecessary sex scenes? Why that's the 90s and 00s and 10s too lol
If anything its because terminator takes place in the 80s or it's a sci-fi film made in the 80s

First off...no sex scene is unnecessary. Secondly, Sarah getting knocked up by Reese is, um, kinda important to the entire Terminator franchise.

I always felt the score to Terminator really dates it, but other than that, it's still great.

Yeah I don't think blonde_devil really thought that one through.

I hate films with necessary, crucial plot points in the middle of them.

What the hell? I like Aliens but take off the nostalgia goggles, Ripley's hairstyle, the blue screen and some of the cheesy dialog is enough to suggest its a 1980's film. The orignal Alien is a different story, it has a more ageless quality to it in terms of the cinematography and style.

Made worse by the 1997/2004/2011 CGI additions? or not as bad with the so-called "upgrades"?

Um, sorry, but the silly humor in Jedi dated the movie the month after it came out.

I agree about Jedi being dated and also with the exception of a few good/iconic standalone moments and scenes, its almost just as bad as the prequels IMO, but I wasn't questioning Jedi, I was questioning A New Hope.

I know, but I think ANH and ESB have aged very well. ANH is almost as serious as ESB in its story.

I feel that Gone With The Wind has aged terribly. It looks like it was filmed in the 30s. Oh wait...
