There are movies I may not watch because the subject matter/theme doesn't interest me, but if I go to the theater or put on a movie at home I watch the whole thing. The only exception I can think of happened in the 80's when I was at the theater with someone else and they wanted to leave. I drove them so that was that.

I'm surprised but glad the thread policeman hasn't showed up here yet to say this thread is too ancient to post in and that a new thread should've been made...
The topic is still valid so the thread still has a point IMO. A dusty old book can still be useful to re-read. When I watched Thin Red Line, great movie IMO. Then I watched Malick's next film in theaters, The New World, about when the pilgrims landed and had to survive with nothing much. Lots of potential there, but by the midway mark, I realized this movie wasn't advancing the story, as it kept focusing on the woman walking in the fields, brushing her hands against the grains in close ups, while thinking about her interests in her mind. After so many times of that, I lost my patience in the theater, got up and walked out for the first time ever for a movie. At home, the first 10 minutes are crucial. It can be a slow progress horror film, but it has to be interesting enough to keep me intrigued. If I bought a disc, and the first 10 minutes aren't working, I'll fast forward till something interesting happens. Then if that's good, I'll start it from the beginning again. If that still hasn't happened, I'll FF to the end and just watch the ending. If that's good, then I'll watch the film again. |

Last movie I walked out of before it was over was The Matrix Resurrections. I hated what I saw so much. About halfway through it, give or take, I realized that there was literally nothing it could do or no amount it could improve that would make me all of a sudden start liking it and that I'd be happier if I just peaced out.
If I hadn't ridden with other people to the theater I definitely would have walked out of the Nightmare on Elm Street remake. That's one of the most odious, unpleasant movies movies ever.. |

I'll say a movie should try to fulfill what it sets out to do without too much stalling. If it's stalling just to fill time and doesn't advance the story, that could lose the viewer as I've learned.
One movie that almost lost me was the Power Rangers reboot movie. First, of let's say a 2 hour movie, 90 minutes were all preparing and training. The main villain was there but no real threat till the final 30 minutes. Finally, in the final 30 minutes, the Power Rangers put on their suits. But disappointingly, their masks weren't even masks. Just open face cushions. Not good. Only the red ranger had a true mask. Point of masks completely missed by the Producers, probably for the point of "But we need to always see the actors and their expressions, no masks, okay?" ![]() |

That Power Rangers movie was still pretty good for what it was though. I mean....it ain't no great thing. But it's a breezy little film with some good visuals. First scene is the best. Cranston can sell anything lol..

Only recent movie I stoped about halfway through was The Eternals. No plot, phoned in performances if you can even call them that and a total waste of time.
It takes a lot for me to not finish a film since some do get better as they go along or redeem themselves. But I don’t blame anyone for bailing if they are bored or irritated. The only other thing that would get me to bail instantly is some super heavy-handed political crap being shoved into a movie where it doesn’t belong. Or ham-fisted preachiness type of thing. |

I always watch every movie to the end. I really wanted to leave "Megalopolis" after 10 minutes or so, but I endured until the end credits.
However, there was ONE movie that made me walk out of the theater: "127 Hours". And that was because I started feeling nauseous when James Franco [Show spoiler] . On the next day, while watching another movie, I saw a man come out of the auditorium playing "127 Hours" and just collapsing to the floor. The dude fainted! That could have been me!

In my younger days, pre-Covid, any intense scenes in a packed cinema would usually cause me to walk out because of my anxiety levels. I specifically remember going to see Saving Private Ryan with my dad and my best friend and leaving after about 15 minutes. It was too much for me.
Nowadays, anything that doesn't hold my interest after half an hour. That's about how long I give a film before I hit STOP and do something else. Life's too short to invest 2 hours in something that might get better. I watch a lot of horror, cult, independent films. Anything involving kids in an obviously shocking, triggering fashion, I tend to fast forward or close my eyes too. August Underground Mordum and Murder Set Pieces would be examples. I still think the director's a complete **** for shooting that scene in MSP. There are directors whose films I won't watch because of my personal opinion of them, but that's obviously before even considering starting the film, so I guess that doesn't count! |

I've never not finished a film. If I start it, I'm finishing it, even if it's awful. Mainly because I don't think it's fair to judge a film if you haven't fully experienced it.
At the same time, I think my backlog wouldn't have gotten so bad (almost fully caught up with unwatched purchases) if I turned things off if they sucked. |

Baffling choice there. What's so wrong with nudity? Sometimes it's badly forced and pointless, such as Halle Berry in Swordfish, where they knew the film was terrible and did that in hope it would draw people in.
What's so offensive about a bit of skin and some boobs? |
