hooked me as a kid into the realms of beautiful ship and sound design.

Star Trek II Wrath of Khan - Mutara Nebula Battle - YouTube

click to 2m30s for the lightning and sound

click to 3m36s for my favourite 10 seconds of music. as the Enterprise swings around to track behind the Reliant.

it is the use of an instrument called a "Blaster Beam" that Jerry Goldsmith uses so successfully as well.
I still love this now.
It's a great score. Although the whole score is excellent from when Khan rolls up its exceptional right through until the end. What really gutted me was when Horner reused so much of it for Aliens a few years later. That was the start of a downhill spiral for him where he reused a lot of his work. It seems from the early to mid 80's he started taking parts of his previous scores and either re-using them wholesale or adapting them into "new" pieces. Such a shame as when he came up with something original it was often extremely good!

Thank you, yea he had become quite proficient at c&v'ing his own material, The Amazing Spiderman uses a component from The Search For Spock, as the Enterprise warps away from the Excelsior, I believe it is a scene as Spiderman is swinging around on his web, and he pulls up to a skyscraper for the first time. NVM Avatar and Aliens hah.

I have to say he has always had this trait. Battle Beyond The Stars has firm seeds for The Wrath of Khan of course.

cheers

Hi Nitin,

As I'm not familiar with this movie, would you mind posting the video you mentioned so I know which scene it is? I had a look on YouTube but I don't know if I was watching the right parts.

That's the whole film, the (large) sequence I mentioned is from 41:35 to 53:50.

Thanks mate. The missus and I found and watched parts of that section last night, so it's good to know that we were watching the right thing, and now to have seen it in full.

It's time to announce the winners. After a great deal of thought and discussion between myself and the missus, first place goes to Nitin, second place to LordCrumb, and third place to Hucksta G.

I will contact each member via PM, first will be Nitin. After Nitin has selected which prize he would like, I will let LordCrumb know, so that he can select from the two remaining prizes. Whatever prize is left will go to Hucksta G.

Leading up to this I had a few different ideas on what the competition would be. Originally, like last time, I was thinking of it being Christmas themed, where members submissions would need to incorporate Christmas into them. I also wanted it to be easier for members this time around. What actually made me choose members posting scenes and scores to enter was this which was posted in the U.S Bad Boys I & II thread:

Though at first I considered still having it revolve around Christmas, but in the end decided to ditch the Christmas theme altogether.

Hucksta G third place winner, has asked if his prize, the Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones Yoda steelbook, could go to someone else who would get more appreciation from it, as he already owns the title. This is a nice gesture on his part. Since Hucksta G was the winner of the prize I consulted him on who it should go to. It was decided it should go to whoever the runner up was. This member is: 80sfanboy. Congrats mate! and a big thanks goes out to Husksta G.

If you could PM your address mate, I'll send it out to you early next week.

Default Cevolutions Blu-ray Christmas Giveaway

I thought I might do an Easter giveaway. I have a spare copy of the Japanese version of Saw III:

This version has a high video bitrate AVC encode and lossless audio, and is currently the best version of the 114m unrated cut available on Blu-ray. To enter, all you need to do is post a video of your favourite humorous scene from a movie (if no video is available online, you can describe it). The winner will be drawn March 29. Good luck!
