I agree the image itself is fitting and the title looks great as well (it looks more like a book than a DVD cover), however the overall impression is ruined by the BFI and BBFC logos much more than usual I think.

I was thinking "What a lovely cover" too. Better this than just a Herzog mugshot or some half-assed attempt at combining images from different films.

I hope 7 discs wont mean video is too compressed. 18 films (I know some are farily short) + extras is still a lot of content for 7 discs.

Don't worry, I got this

I'm using the world's best AVC encoder on the highest quality settings (the encodes are given as much time as they need to look their best, and are manually adjusted as well).

That's sounds very promising, Lyris! Will you be doing a new encode of Nosferatu (I understand the German BD release had a few problems)?

I have quite a few BFI blu rays - Saturday Night & Sunday Morning, Salo, Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner. They are all superbly packaged with a minimalist, classy, un-showy design.

Completely disagree with your views on the Herzog box-set cover, I think it looks great. No pleasing some people.

It's always the way to do new encodes, so that the assets fit on the disc and maximize all the available space. I've not seen the German version so can't comment on that, though.

• one of the best-known films in the box;
• Klaus Kinski;
• the jungle location;
• a daunting technical challenge (raising the ship);

...in other words, key characteristics of several Herzog films, not just that one. And the whole notion of the single man as a spectator viewing these amazing things also ties into the spirit of Herzog's films as a whole.
Well put! I think enough of us have completely outweighed wolffuncut's original comment, so I think it's safe to agree this is release of the year? So far at least (for me anyway). I may be biased, but boy am I excited.

It's impossible to say until it's been released and reviewed but if it's technically fine then it's certainly a contender. Arrow's Borowczyk is another release that will put up a good fight for the title. I have my orders in for both!

Shout Factory do not appear to be big fans of region freedom, so almost certainly not.

Not likely to be region free since two different companies (BFI and SHout Factory) are releasing the films in different regions.

Dammit, shame some of them are only in the Shout! Factory set. Maybe BFI will get them one day and release them as a 'bumper' pack for us UK Herzog fans. I especially want to see Even Dwarfs Started Small, Where The Green Ants Dream and My Best Fiend, but do have Little Dieter on DVD somewhere already.
