I believe most replicators have a minimum pressing of 1000. I wonder if they would ever go that route with some of the titles that probably wouldn't ever sell out at 3000 (Rapture, which gets near unanimous praise and has been around since near the beginning of TT has not sold out, of course, I haven't bought it either since it's not my type of film to actually own).

I think with pressing even less than what they do now, I'm not sure if it would lower their licensing fees all that much since they're dealing with larger studios who might not see the point, so they wouldn't only save in some production costs but the per unit cost would be much higher.

Honestly, if sales are down, I would blame increased competition. Kino has been knocking it out of the park lately when it comes to interesting title releases and they can be had for less than half the cost.

I've heard that VAMPIRES is selling pretty well and that has a run of 5000.

Just a reminder, this just went up for sale today. Looks like they went with 3500 copies.

You can order it from here or here.

Thank you. I completely forgot. Got Harlock, and 1984 ordered, and decided to add John Carpenter's Vampires....

Don't forget that Twilight Time is having a sale...a bunch of titles at $24.99 and $19.99, including FIRST MEN IN THE MOON (how this absolutely stunning 4K-scanned Harryhausen film did not sell out quickly is beyond me), ZARDOZ, THE BOUNTY, and a bunch of others.

It's not surprising given the prices of these titles--I would buy this one, but not a blind buy at $35 + $4+ shipping!

I pre-ordered mine. I'm wondering how they will handle the placement of the 3D subtitles. If they are placed flat on the screen it will likely cause issues with collision when objects come out of the screen where the subtitles are located. The subtitles should be placed in front of the screen a bit to help avoid this issue.

I've seen 3D blu-ray discs that are un-watchable with subtitles due to this issue, so I hope they handle it correctly here.

^I ordered it, but my order is still pending.

The Screen Archives page still lists Harlock as a "pre-order" even though it's supposed to be released today.

Thanks revgen for the response.

Received an answer to a status order update from Twilight Time:
Quote:
We just heard that due to manufacturing delays we won't have our stock until approximately December 18th. I just updated the order page on our site to show it. Our other December titles should all be in by the end of this week.

Thanks and sorry for the delay

I sent Screen Archives an e-mail. I ordered The Detective and Harlock. Hopefully, they'll ship The Detective now and Harlock whenever it becomes available.

Thanks revgen. I haven't bothered to email them
yet. Figured I'd get a faster response on here.
I may cancel my order and just import it thru Amazon.

As long as it gets done correctly, I don't mind them delaying it for a month.

Would appreciate it if you can give me an update once you get that response back.

EDIT: Decided to email them myself. Looks like they will be doing the same as twilight time. I paid via paypal so looks like my card was charged already. Not sure if twilight time is doing this, but apparently Screen Archives is giving a $5 credit once it ships for the inconvenience.

Quote:
We are also however, offering a $5 credit (refund) on the order for the inconvenience of the situation.

My reply was

"We will be shipping all of the in stock items beginning today and save Harlock to ship when it becomes available."

No mention of a $5 discount. Then again, I ordered via credit card instead of paypal, so it's no real loss to me financially. They don't charge credit cards until the order ships.

EDIT: I found the mention of the $5 discount on their homepage. Looks like it applies to everyone who ordered Harlock.

Anything the twilight time version offers that the uncut region A Japanese version doesn't already have?

The Australian release was the only one with the 3D version and English dub (as shown on Netflix in 2D), will it include this?

Twilight Time offers both the longer (115 min) Japanese cut and the International Cut (111 min) on two separate discs.

The Japanese cut is in Japanese with English subtitles. The International cut is English language.

Both cuts are in 2D and 3D.

Also includes an isolated soundtrack, commentary and other special features. These discs are also region-free.

You can read more about it here.

That makes it the definitive release in my book.
