As somebody with a respectable little Code Red collection and an affinity for the 80s, Neon Maniacs has always been a title I've gone back and forth on purchasing, but the plot (not that CR buyers tend to care much about this) seems totally nonsensical.

Is it like a bizarro Monster Squad, where a group of friends band together to battle mutants that appear in their hometown without much backstory?

The wacko plot is one of the reasons I love this film, and it has its own internal logic, it isnt completely nonsense imo, has good creative makeup efffects, fun kills, nerdy stuff, a battle of the bands, very 80s. They never explain the trading cards, sure thats true but it all contributes to the bizarre atmosphere

I think if you see the poster for the film you'll either have high interest or no interest in seeing it. I've got 3 different posters for the film and they all showcase the maniacs.

From what I've read, budget shaving cannibalized the original vision to have a monster-palooza, resulting in minimal screen time for the eponymous villains and script shortcomings.

I might give it a go, but it's hard to believe we won't see this one resuscitated via another economical Code Red/Kino joint release.

How was it ordering from them? Can’t really find a whole lot about them and the picture they use for their listing of the item is pretty low-res. Was it a boot or a legit Code Red copy? Thanks!

Overall a good experience. The three titles i ordered were legit Code Red copies and they give you the option at checkout to have your order shipped in a bubble mailer or box. It took about a week before my order shipped but when it did, i received it in two days. I plan on placing a second order soon.

Thanks for the reply! I just placed an order for Hill Have Eyes 3, Ghostkeeper, and Neon Maniacs. I’m glad to hear that your experience with them was positive though. I really do not want to drop $50-100+ per title on eBay. The prices on Capstone just made me a little cautious as it seemed too good to be true.

As someone who doesn’t own any Code Red releases, is this different from how Code Red releases feel? Or is it that the ones on Capstone feel like boots of Code Red?

Nah as in I bought the Code Red release from its original point of sale back when it came out (can’t remember if it was Bill himself or Screen Archives by that point).

Early Code Red titles were very low quality. Cheap case and print. Very simple menu if any.

Ah I see, thanks for the clarification. Hopefully the ones I bought from Capstone are of decent quality. Never really looked at Code Red before but I had a friend chatting me up about Neon Maniacs, and this is the only Region A release for it I believe.

Just watched this for the first time last night and loved it. Felt similar in vain to something like Spookies.

Would love to see a company like VS or something give it a new release!

Capstone is legit, Bill from Codered used to post about the seller and how he had tons of Bill's leftover stock.
