The latest and greatest:

Interesting stuff...

Weird stuff...

Saw them both, mostly because I've recently finished one of the games and was inspired to see them again. They're alright.

Finally, a favorite. Don't even have to explain why.

The List:
[Show spoiler]
01: The Grandmaster
02: 1984 (1984)

30: Wild at Heart
31: Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
32: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
33: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and the Cradle of Life
34: Raiders of the Lost Ark *

34 films, 11 qualified as top 50 favorites

At this point, I don't think there's any way I'll be able to squeeze in 19 favorite movies in the next five days to meet the minimum bronze trophy, especially since I have to work tomorrow and all next week. But at least I got some in.

Today's viewings:

a whole lot of mediocrity:

and one to cross off the favorites list!

First time watch for my 5 and 8 year-old kids. They loved it, of course. We're going to do one a week until we've watched the whole saga.

I love doing stuff like that. The kids, though, would never make through more than maybe 2 in a row.

It all started when my daughter asked me, "Which movie is first?" - I responded, "Well, that's a complicated answer..." And we went with release order rather than chronological/numerical.

Yeah, I would imagine a kid wouldn't want to sit through so many movies in a row

When I first bought the set, I watched them in release order, which is my preferred order. Maybe this time I'll do numerical order.

Moved Psycho up to 15. Forgot how good it is.

Time for The Untouchables.

Edit: Am moving The Untouchables way down...probably off the list. Not what it used to be.

three movies watched since my last update:

South Park is a definite Top 50 Favorite for me
Reality Bites I think just barely misses the cut, as I can't find a Top 50 movie I'd displace for it. It would be in my Top 100, though. It's definitely one of my top 20 quotable movies.
Insidious 2 clearly is not a part of my favorites list. - a few genuinely creepy moments, but overall just another by-the-numbers PG13 horror film too reliant on jump scare after jump scare.

Don't have Reality Bites. But got the soundtrack. Played the f' out of it in college.
Gotta see if the SACD is available.

Not me. I failed this month. I think I was too overwhelmed by April's challenge. It sure was a challenge.

not yet. The favorite movies (April) challenge for me is going to be an ongoing thing.
What are we thinking for May? I know at one point we considered a 5-each "by decades" challenge. Were there any other suggestions?

I think we should include TV Series as an optional category.

Decades will be tough. Not going to get 5 for 20's. I'm willing to try whatever challenge is posted.

I will try to fit my last 20 favorites into whatever the categories are.

LOL why not just do a TV challenge! Instead of 50 two-hour movies, do 100 hours of television shows

like you, though, I'll do whatever challenge is posted, though I may or may not succeed.

Yep, I have only got to 50....think twice. 35 in April, 31 favorites and 4 new ones.

The challenges help me decide. Before, I'd stand in front of the shelves and couldn't find a thing to watch.

Ha! This is me too! So many choices but I'll stand there forever trying to decide what to watch. I like the idea of TV shows but I'm new here so I'll go with whatever. I would gladly watch season 1-3 of GoT again

Looks like this is my final line-up:

Yes, I enjoy this version way more than the original '33 classic. The action and SFX hold up well, regardless of how long and bloated it is, and I enjoy the actual story/characters better. I'm still willing to call it a favorite.

(Duel at Ganryu Island)

Yep, more of the same.

(My Kingdom)

Got this as a foreign DVD. It's alright; some cool action in the beginning, then it all kinda fizzles out.

(5 Centimeters Per Second)

It looks beautiful, but I thought the movie was a bore.

Got to end it with some kind of favorite. I still think it's a perfect marriage of style and substance.

Didn't reach 50 films, didn't see nearly enough favorites. Epic fail on my part.

Next month might not be so good for me, given that I have to travel and visit my folks soon, but I'll see how many I can squeeze in.
