Me too. I'd go further and say given all the hype and high scores on imdb etc I was really disappointed at how extremely average it all was. Made it to the end of the first season but had no interest in continuing on to Season 2.

I doubt it, they've tried dealing with MGM before and been told "no". And Bryan Fuller re-planned it out either at the beginning or the end of the second season, so he'll have probably planned for the eventuality that they couldn't use SOTL.

I can easily anticipate that when Hannibal gets caught, it will return to more of a procedural kind of format regarding the hunt for the Tooth Fairy, but I guess some viewers won't stick around to see it through. With all the dreck clogging up network television at the moment, Hannibal is a shining light that should be rewarded, and certainly not cut down in it's prime. |

Here's what Fuller said about Season 4:

Given that Gaumont actually make the series (NBC just had the US broadcast rights), I'll be shocked if this is the last we'll see it Fuller's version of the characters. Perhaps not a full season, but a mini-series of even a lower budget film.
Fuller knew he might not get the rights to Clarice Starling early on which is why Miriam Lass was introduced. |

If people have region free capability, i'd strongly advise importing the Lionsgate Season 2 release from the USA.
I originally bought Seasons 1 & 3 from the USA (for the Producer's Cuts and complete special features) but opted for the UK Studio Canal Season 2 release because, content wise, it was much the same as Lionsgate's. But..... After watching it, I noticed the Studio Canal release features some really poor encoding resulting in frequent, irritating posterisation in dark areas of the screen. The banding is more obvious in some episodes than others but it's a pervasive issue - the finale is rife with it for example. So, I imported the Lionsgate release to check it out and whaddya know? All gone. The issue isn't present. The funny thing is, SC uses the space on four discs and still ballses up the encoding, but Lionsgate uses just three discs and gets it looking far better. Depends on your sensitivity to posterisation. Some people will notice it straight away - especially because it can sometimes make dark areas appear to 'flash'. Others might watch the episodes a dozen times and not notice anything wrong. But it's definitely there. And it definitely shouldn't be ![]() |

That's certainly more true of Season's 1 & 3. The UK release of S2 features none of the digital censorship (blurring, darkening areas of the screen etc) that they did for the TV Broadcast versions, hence why I bought it initially. But yeah, all three of Studio Canal's releases suck for various reasons - be it the lack of gorier Producer's Cuts, missing special features or shite encoding, so it's best to avoid all of them and import.

If I'm not mistaken, the producer cuts are all on the German discs and the set would be a better than the Uk in terms of episode integrity. However there are only German subs so can anyone with the German set advise if that's a big stumbling block? I am presuming there is a fair bit of foreign language used throughout, particularly in the Italian settings, that would be unsubtitled?
