Here are some spinoffs I want to see.

There's never any proof in ROTS that Yoda and Obi Wan are the only surviving Jedi knights. I want to see a film set between ROTS and ANH where we follow Darth Vader hunting down any remaining Jedi, including the search for Obi Wan and Yoda.

I'd also like to see a film about Palpatine from the beginning of his training under Darth Plagueis up until TPM.

Only one Bothans died, his name is Manny.

I'm never going to be able to watch Fight Club again without replacing Robert Paulson with Manny Bothans.

Still laughing about this now. Unfortunately aiman wasn't first with the gag (see here: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Manuel_Both-Hanz ) but I'll never be able to watch that scene in the same way again.

Interesting, they even put new spelling. It's not canon I guess.

This film is now rumored to be about Han Solo.

http://makingstarwars.net/2014/12/fi...tion-codename/

Question is, will this be set between episodes VII and VIII (Harrison Ford), or III and IV (recast a younger actor)?

It's set between three and four, because it's rumored to be a heist film dealing with the stealing of the Death Star plans, so it'll be a new actor.

A pretty dubious sounding rumour recently started doing the rounds which indicated that Han Solo might play a role in the first Star Wars spinoff movie which is dated for 2016. Gareth Edwards is directing, and the same site which broke the story mentioned above also indicated that Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul could end up playing a role (many have since linked him to Han Solo even though there original report didn't). As hard as it is to believe, it does make some sense, especially as we recently learned from a far more reliable source that the spinoff will focus on a team of bounty hunters hired by the Rebels to steal the plans of the first Death Star AND that the Millennium Falcon will factor into the movie somehow. Badass Digest however have weighed in on the rumour, and they mention that this, "matches up with what I've heard recently, that the first film is about a group of 'pirates' as opposed to 'bounty hunters,' which could easily include young Mr. Solo." This does make a little more sense, as a roguish team of heroes would in some ways work better than a group of mercenaries who we saw working with Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back...

I don't buy that plot at all. If Solo was involved in stealing the plans then he would have been more aware of the death star and the rebellion in the OT. It makes no sense to have Solo in that movie.

Screenwriter Gary Whitta Departs Standalone Star Wars Film

Gary Whitta, the screenwriter behind The Book of Eli and After Earth, has finished his work on the standalone Star Wars film. The Hollywood Reporter has the news, bringing word that Gareth Edwards remains attached to direct the December 16, 2016 release.

“Gary has been a wonderful, inspired contributor and I enjoyed working with him tremendously,” Edwards tells the outlet. “I’m so grateful for all of his contributions. “

“The year I spent working with Lucasfilm on this Star Wars film has been by far the most rewarding period of my entire career,” adds Whitta. “As a lifelong Star Wars fan I’m deeply grateful to have had the rare opportunity to contribute to a new chapter in its ongoing cinematic legacy. The film is going to be amazing.”

Rumored to be a heist film involving the theft of the Death Star plans, the film should announce a new writer shortly. Whitta’s involvement is still major, however, with the scribe having just Tweeted the following notes regarding his departure:

Gary Whitta ✔ @garywhitta
My year of work in a galaxy far, far away is done! I’m onto my next project, adapting @mrmarkmillar’s STARLIGHT for 20th Century Fox!

Actresses being tested ...

There’s no word what the role is but The Hollywood Reporter reports Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara, and recent Oscar nominee Felicity Jones are all testing for a part in the film.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the potential Tatiana Maslany Star Wars news. According to the piece, these are just three actresses testing for the role and Jones might not be able to commit because she’s already cast in Ron Howard’s Inferno.

Edwards’ Star Wars standalone will be the second Star Wars movie out of the gate, scheduled for release December 16, 2016. It starts filming this Spring at Pinewood Studios outside London. Gary Whitta wrote the first draft of the script and since then Simon Kinberg has reportedly taken over some writing duties.

The official plot of the film has yet to be revealed but we were the first to report it most likely will be about a group of characters, potentially bounty hunters, stealing the plans for the first Death Star.

Sources for The Hollywood Reporter did not confirm that plot, nor did they confirm Kinberg’s involvement, both of which we broke here on /Film. They did say testing for the film began in the UK and is now happening in the US.

As for these actresses, they are all seriously talented and seriously intimidating. You’d have to think, though Mara is the bigger name stateside, fans would be pulling for Maslany to break out of her major TV role on Orphan Black. She’s got a huge following and chameleon-like ability to play all sorts of roles, as evidenced by the role on that hit show, which returns in April.

So what role is Edwards casting? Some kind of female bounty hunter would be the best bet. Likely a new character. Then again, that’s purely speculative. It could be Princess Leia’s step-mother for all we know.

As a pretty big fan of Orphan Black, I would love it if Maslany got cast in a big production like this. She obviously has no troubles working shots with heavy special effects and things like that - oh, and she's a pretty good actor.

I'm surprised they've just started casting. If they're aiming for a 2016 release, they should be getting a move on.

You can't go wrong with any of those three actresses, in my opinion.
