Not having the previous release, I wll most likely get this, for audio/video presentation and extra stuff seem good enough.

But, with that recent restored print, you can be sure there's a triple dip looming in the not so distant future.

I'll just stick with my 2007 version, it has enough suppilments to keep me happy, + I have the Stanley Kubrick Life In Pictures DVD that came with the 2001 box set.

If it goes on sale for like 10 bones (or less) I might bite, until then it's to buying this version of ACO.

The only reason I want this is because of the Stanley Kubrick documentary.

You can buy that for about $3.00 off Amazon. Used even cheaper.

Best Frankenstein movie ever

I love movie references. To bad most of mine go over my friends and coworkers heads. Instead of being funny they just end up being extremely awkward moments when someone asks 'what does that mean?'

I purchased this movie on Blu-ray at my local Best Buy back in July of 2010. I never opened it. I could not find my sales slip or anything. I just called the main line for Best Buy and the girl was able to see the order from my reward zone points. She sent me an email with the sales slip.

I am happy that I can still return this Blu-ray. She said since it's been so long since I purchased it that they most likely will give me a gift card. I am glad that I never got around to opening it. Now I can get the 40th Anniversary Edition DigiBook

Have any reviews come in about the Cannes restored print and how it looks? Be interesting to see what they've changed.

Good question I almost forgot they screened it there. I just can't get over the fact we didn't get a better encode on the new Digibook release.

Ok, the Main feature (2007) where did it end the grain and dust typical acquisition from OCN,
sharpness and dynamic, white balance,
colorimetry less saturated and more natural,
content in the video excerpt from the bonus features Turning Like Clockwork ?

Main feature Bonus features

Main feature Bonus features

Main feature Bonus features

Main feature Bonus features

Note
(the main feature is always the same encoded video 2007 in VC-1, the new bonus features is presented in AVC and much lower bitrate)

Is coming perhaps a further edition, less or rather filtered ?

Meanwhile, I hope for a new encode,
with the video of the new bonus features

we open a petition ?

A Life in Pictures was produced in SD, so it would be pointless for WB to upscale it to HD.
All the documentaries on the recent Bond Blu-ray releases were re-edited in HD with all the clips and photo inserts re-scanned at full HD resolution and the original interview upscaled with some nice graphics instead of the black columns on the sides. If it was filmed in 35m, that's even worse. There's no other reason than lazyness not to rescan it in full HD. The cost would be, what, 10 000 $ ? 15 000 $ top ?

Don't tell me a corporation doesn't have the time and money. We're talking Kubrick here, not some forgotten piece of film.

Even if it was filmed in 35mm (which I doubt), then why should they re-edit the entire thing, just to make it HD? It's just a documentary. I think Warner should focus a little bit more on the quality of the movies than whether the bonus materials are in SD or not.

There are advantages to it :

- Make the documentary HD television compatible = more airings = more bucks over the future years.

- The documentary will have a longer life into the 21st century (by the time we reach 4K 3D ready TVs, those SD things will make our eyes strain).

- Change the old clips from old transferts who do not represent the true magnificence of the material, to reflect the improved, remastered quality.

- Respect for the buyer. I think there should be a law banning SD material on HD discs (I mean, did you get often VHS rips on DVDs, coming from all the majors compagnies) ? If you wanna put in extra material in SD, make it on an extra DVD.

We're buying Bluray, should be full HD stuff, not recipients to tons of SD stuff we already own on DVD. And no, documentary, trailer, whatever, these needs to be ALL IN HD on a Blu-ray. Otherwise, you're just ripping people off.

As for the master being the same old, just a couple of weeks after the improved version is shown at Cannes ... It this a joke ?

I agree with some posters on other forums, who want this to go the Gladiator way and aks for an exchange program. It's a total complete rip off. It's crap with a nice wrapping. It's doesn't reflect nice on Kubrick legacy, the year it's supposed to.

Pretty good improvement, the colour looks a bit faded in shots. It certainly seemed a print issue or DNR that makes the current release so soft. BTW is this screenshots of the Cannes print and does DartDvd have anymore shots (perhaps from earlier n the film)?

Blu-ray is just a format, nothing else. It' not required by law to only have HD content on it. Warner used an entire Blu-ray and filled it with over 9 hours of content for the Gone With the Wind release. Now, should they throw that stuff (which was made in SD) out because it's not in HD, and produce new ones, or should they empty the archives? If wonderful bonus features exist, and they happen to be in SD, then I see no reason not to include those at all.

Still using the old master is of course something Warner should never have done, especially when you just made a new one. I agree that Kubrick is an important asset of Warner Bros., and they should always make the best effort on those movies. I'd love to see Barry Lyndon and Lolita with actual bonus features. But griping that some documentary that was produced in SD is in SD on the disc is not an issue, IMHO.

Of course it's not required, that's just me, I think Blu-ray specs should include High Def content only as mandatory on Blu-Ray. The extras in SD can go on a bonus DVD. I'm happiest when all the content on a Blu is full HD.

Now of course comes the problem if you have too much bonus content, you would better put it all on a single Blu instead of several DVDs and save space. But those are rather exception than the rule, usually SD and HD is mixed up on the same disc.

Anyway I think a life in pictures is a great documentary. I would have been happy seeing it get the High Def treatment, however long it is.

im not an expert but i prefer the Docu version (included into the bluray). I see in the others one lot of DNR and less detail.
Dont know why no one is talking about that maybe is it just me?
