I was very surprised at how bad of a movie this was given the praise heaped upon it.
I came away feeling that non-believers=bad and believers=poor persecuted folks with good hearts. At first I thought this would be a display of reasoned and well-thought-out arguments in favor of God. In the end, it was a guy who was pissed because of bad things that happened to him. Which is rarely the case for most atheists. I kept hoping for the one good atheist, Muslim or other non-believer type to enter the picture and it never happened. If anyone hopes this film will be one of those that turns non-believers onto God, this is most definitely not the way to go about it. If I was going to recommend a Christian film to a non-believer, it would be "To Save A Life". |

I have not seen "To Save A Life" yet, but I just noticed the director of that movie directed "I'm Not Ashamed" which I had seen recently. That was a really good movie for a Pure Flix release. It wasn't campy to me, and didn't fall into the trap other Pure Flix movies do(thus I can take the movie seriously as any other movie), and I think a non-believer might enjoy the movie on it's own terms. Since it has a message, but doesn't beat you over the head with it, and lets you be won over as a result. And that's how you win people over vs alienating everyone. Also on the dvd rental of that movie was a trailer for Gods Not Dead 2, and that looks like typical Pure Flix material with the evil liberal professors out to erase God from society(or something) and the righteous believer who stands up to the oppression. That might deliver some laughs from what I can tell. |

Most of my problems with this thing are not just about the ham fisted message but also the terrible filmmaking involved in the production. |

EDIT: I would not recommend any recent videos from that channel. He doesn't seem to talk about movies anymore, and he's gotten super political in the last few years, with really bad takes. ![]() He's gone from "what if Disney's Aladdin actually takes place in the future?" to "Home Alone is a right-wing revenge-fantasy, and gun owners want people to break into their homes so they can legally kill them" to "shoplifting is a-okay, because capitalism is bad, and the police are evil". I'm exaggerating, but only a little bit, that's the crazy part. I almost feel bad for ever watching or recommending him to anyone in the first place. Last edited by gwfb5; 09-26-2022 at 02:23 PM. |
