Thanks Levcore. I went in hoping for more Jurassic Park fun, and that's what I got out of it, so I wasn't disappointed, but as you suggest, nothing we haven't seen before given the premise of the story being very similar to JP 1. I will say the Raptor storyline was very good relating to Chris Pratt. That was a nice payoff.

Levcore, what visual effects would you say could be improved?

Awesome mate, the stupid imax I was at put the message to put your 3D glasses on at the start, then showed a 2D trailer for The Walk straight after!! idiots! Stuff like that does not help sell 3D at all, it's just embarrassing. I would have loved to have seen that trailer in 3D.

Best moments for me were the Jurassic Park theme near the start when the two boys arrive at the park, they go into their hotel room and the young boy opens the shutters on the balcony as the music swells and the camera cruises out over the park, over the water, the Mososaur tank and the main part of the park. That was stunning, absolutely awesome.

I also loved the fight between T Rex and I Rex at the end, that was some cool stuff although the telegraphing of the I Rex getting chomped by the Mososaur was so painfully obvious lol. There was a great part when the dinosaurs are fighting and our leads are taking a shortcut through the building as the dinos crash through into it and a raptor lands near them, doesn't see them and charges back into battle! That was great stuff.

Pratt on the motorbike with the raptors by his side should NOT have been in the trailer though, that would have been an absolute highlight if we didn't all know it was going to happen from the trailer. Big mistake spoiling that bit.

Sorry to hear about that. They did that to me a few times with the Terminator Genysis trailer, playing 2D instead of 3D, but this time I finally got it in 3D and it looks great. The special effects in that one though aren't entirely convincing with the liquid metal character though, but not a big deal, as I'll have fun with the movie if it's good.

Good stuff. That was a cool scene, yes, sometimes having a surprise in the movie is a good thing, agreed. What I really enjoyed was not only that, but also when the
[Show spoiler]Raptors finally remembered where their loyalty rests, when they rebelled against Infernasaurus Rex (spelling?) and sided with Pratt. That was nice because that was how we were introduced to Pratt and the Velociraptors.
I didn't think that one guy flying the helicopter would go like that. I was also too focused on the Hybrid dino vs T Rex fight to notice the background, and that Water Monster actually caught me off guard to a good laugh.

I saw this on the IMAX today and thought it was pretty good. The 3D was well done and the movie itself was fun. It looked terrific on the IMAX and I will be picking this up day one for sure. The audience really liked it and there was some clapping for the movie at the end.

We got the following previews:
Minions 3D - looks good, the Despicable Me movies are pretty terrific.
Everest 3D - movie doesn't really appeal to me but maybe the 3D will be good enough to pick up the Blu but I don't see myself going to see this at the movies.
The Walk 3D - Excellent 3D is the only thing that could save this movie, again, not really appealing to me.
The Martian 3D - this is another blah movie, but maybe the 3D can save it.
And finally an extended preview of Ant Man. Had scenes that I hadn't scene in other previews.

Minions and Ant Man are 2 that I want to see but the others really didn't do anything for me. None of them made me say, I'll be checking that one out.

We also got Man From UNCLE 2D preview.

I give this a big thumbs up. I was hoping for a good popcorn movie and got it. There was nothing that I didn't like and hope they can come up with another good reason to visit Jurassic World again. Judging by box office (204,000,000 and counting) tallies, they have to at least have one more offering. Blockbuster movies like this are why I especially like going to theaters in the summer and winter holiday seasons.

Jurassic World got the second biggest opening weekend ever in the US with $204.6 million, and a 48% 3D share. Both the IMAX (at $20.6 million beating the $19 million of Dark Knight Rises) and Real D ($71 million beating the $70 million of Avengers 1) formats had their biggest weekends ever.

According to boxofficemojo, this film also made history as it is the first time a film has ever grossed over $500 million in one weekend, worldwide. WOW!

It's good to see that this movie is doing so well at the box-office and especially for the 3D showings, unfortunately my wife is not interested in seeing it and I will more than likely just purchase it when it releases on Blu-ray 3D
I remember seeing the first JP movie in the theater and not being that impressed with the 3D athough I enjoyed the movie more at home when watching it in 3D and I'm thinking it may just be the same for this latest release.

Nice. Day 1 for blu ray 3D too. Hopefully it'll be in the 24.99 range instead of 29.99 like JP1 3D.

Cool. It definitely lived up to the blockbuster summer hit.

It'll be worth it on 3D blu ray, yes.

Despite my personal disappointments with the movie, it's great to see a 3D release doing so well at the box office and a franchise that has been inactive for so many years. I only wish the movie could have been better but the 3D was fantastic and there were lots of great visuals. That opening weekend number is simply astounding. I hope that the sequel moves in the right direction.

Yeah, awesome box office earnings world wide for JW 3D.
In spoilers if you want, what would you say in your opinion, would improve Jurassic World script and characters? Thanks.

You're right, thanks.
OK I'll try to be succinct:

[Show spoiler]The script was unbelievably stupid and the writing really poor. A big pet peeve i have is when scientist characters just come across really stupid. It was ridiculous that those who PAID for this Indominous Rex weren't allowed to what DNA it comprised of. Also the fact that they didn't seem to have animal experts involved in the nurtuting and raising of this creature as they didn't know that keeping it in captivity was a terrible idea, it took macho Chris Pratt to come along and point out the obvious. It just makes the scientists look really, really stupid. Too stupid to have attained the job they have, so it takes me right out of the movie.

The dialogue was weak and the characters horribly written, i couldn't really engage with or enjoy any of them, so i failed to get invested in the movie. I thought the plotting was very lazy. After so long since the last JP movie is this honestly the best that they could come up with?!? These characters and this writing? I mean seriously, it was pretty bad!

Colin Trevorrow clearly has a long way to go, the staging of the action was very medicore and whilst it was serviceable, it was nothing more. It lacked suspense and tension and the creature encounters lack the build up that Spielberg is so good at. It was just a case of throw lots of dinos at the screen and that should work.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a terrible movie but it was just very, very average. It's on a par with JP 3 which is a very average movie. It lacked the awe and wonder of the first movie, despite the excellent theme being used a few times. I know a lot has changed between 1993 and now but certain shots in Jurassic Park STILL give me goosebumps. That is the mark of a good director, good characters, good choice of shots and music and good editing. I never felt any awe or wonder whilst watching Jurassic World sadly. It was all very by the numbers.

I realise i haven't really said how i'd make it better, just detailed what frustrated me, so i'll have to get round to how i'd improve it!

For an opposing viewpoint, I thought it was terrific and even better than the original. Saw it in IMAX 3D on Sunday at 9:30AM and the theater was 80-85% full. We got 3D trailers for Ant-Man, Minions, The Walk, and Everest. The Martian was sadly in 2D.

I am a humongous fan of the original Jurassic Park, and probably saw it in the theaters at least a dozen times. (I was still going to a second-run theater where it continued screening even after it was released on home video for a while!) I enjoyed The Lost World, but I always turn it off when they leave the island, as the T-rex rampaging through San Diego (I think? I forget) ruined the whole movie for me. The third one was serviceable, but I've only seen it once or twice. It did nothing for me, sadly.

I don't know if it was because Jurassic World had so many callbacks/references/rip-offs to/of the original Jurassic Park (hell, the ending was basically exactly the same with a couple extra dinosaurs) or if it's just because it's been so long since I've seen dinosaurs running around eating people, but I had a blast. Hell, even the dozen rowdy teenagers who were overreacting to every little thing laughing and screaming and carrying on didn't ruin it for me. By the end, I was clapping and cheering and jumping just like the little kid next to me (who I swear I heard telling his father he was going to have nightmares, but was clapping and cheering at the climactic dino fight just like I was!). Yes, the script was cheesy beyond belief, but I just wanted to watch dinosaurs rampaging around eating people, and as far as that went, it was perfectly satisfying.

I insisted on seeing this one in 3D, which meant I had to go alone as my husband really hates seeing 3D movies. (He doesn't like wearing sunglasses in the already dark movie theater, and he thinks it makes the movies look too dark) I was very impressed with the 3D in this. I only noticed one or two little glitches here and there where the conversion wasn't QUITE on, but that's just the way my eyes work. I see everything that's wrong. But there was a lot that was really right about this. Medium to strong 3D throughout, and there were actually quite a few good moments where dinosaur snouts/claws/etc extended out of the screen. Not in a gimmicky way, though. It felt perfectly natural.

Very much looking forward to seeing this again this fall when it comes out on 3D Blu!

You're fired.

Seriously though I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it like the rest of us. Jurassic Park is my all-time favourite movie and Spielberg is my god but I felt this was the best movie it could have been without him directing. And much better than Jurassic Park III!
