My impressions that I posted on the HDN thread:

"I can't imagine watching this again.

Enjoy 2 hours of nothing. I'm probably too lazy for this movie, but, I watched it and I can't tell you anything about the movie. It's literally just like...leftover shots from tree of life, jumbled together with no story, and pretentious narration over the Malick staple 360 shots."

I definitely like some weird ass movies with hard to follow plots and artsy camera work, but this was just too much.

Thankfully it's not a 3 hour Terrence-Malick-nothing-fest. I can't believe studios still give this clown money to make films. I guess it's because his films barely make a little money.

Me aburro.

He's made several movies that are candidates for Best-ever lists. Studios finance this "clown" because they know his films have resonance and serious artistic merit. It's not all a numbers game, thank god.

Right on brother!

No bigger Terrence Malick fan than Ray Jackson.

That being said...he is starting to wander into the artistic spirit world of self-caricature and pretentiousness.

At least that's how I felt about To The Wonder.

At this point in his career, I think the most radical thing he could do would be to just make a straight film with a more traditional narrative.

...he's taken the poetic voice over/abstract imagery thing as far as it can go imo.

It's the frontrunner for my favorite of 2016. Yes the year is young. But it will undoubtedly remain somewhere in my Top Five.

Could've watched a 10-hour cut.

Can't wait to get info on the future Blu-ray release.

Yeah, Tree of Life nailed it and then I think To the Wonder fell a little short. I have yet to see this but I'm very hopeful.

So what you're saying is that it's a Terrance Malick movie. Got it.

Sounds awesome, I can't wait to see it.

A 2 hour film about nothing?

Okay i'd love to see you sit through some of Tarkovsky's work.

There was someone on these forums I believe who summed up Malick perfectly and accurately.

He's a nature documentarist who plays at being an actual film maker.

I watched Stalker a couple weeks ago. It had more of a plot than this one. I definitely felt like that shit was way too long though. I also own Solaris.

There is some seriously beautiful shots in this movie and I can't deny the nice cinematography; however, that isn't going to make me not think it's pretentious as **** though. Also, I loved pretty much everything pre-To The Wonder. TTW was not bad....just not nearly as good as Tree Of Life was.

Not even close, but -- like so many who keep spouting this platitude in different ways -- it still always makes me laugh to know people keep jumping on this ludicrous description bandwagon.

So thanks for that at least.

"Not even close"?? It actually is, a number of his films don't really have much of a plot if any at all. Brave New World and The Thin Red Line are two that I can think of that actually had some kind of real story. Days of Heaven I finally got around to watching and that was minimal at best. A quarter of the movie was the camera focusing on wheat and grain fields.

Malick isn't even a proper filmmaker, he's a lover of film and he makes films better than most who do it as a job and a means of putting food on the table. Malick doesn't sell out like many of his counterparts have.

Plot by the numbers? No, there's not much. You're right when it comes to that.

Films about much more than "plot," however -- as in humanity, nature, religion, poetry -- tend to be his way to fight through that which can even be called a plot.

Malick isn't for everyone. But the plots are there. They're just full of ascension and beauty and a lot that you have to work for to understand. It's not some folks' bag, I get that -- but I love his films like no other.

Amen to that.

And THAT seems like all nature -- for the purpose of such things too.

Apparently he's been working on it for years and years.

Someday, maybe. We shall see...

I think we will. Weightless is first though then Voyage of Time. Which sadly could be the last Malick film released. He isn't getting any younger.
