I can't imagine why anyone would want to watch a movie through a real time 2D to 3D conversion. I mean after ten weeks of work and over 10 million dollars on Clash of the Titans it ended up looking awful. A real time 3D converter can only look worse. A chip in your television is no where near smart enough to guess what proper image depth should look like. Even the best expensive professional conversions don't match the quality of native 3D. I say give your glasses a break and watch 2D movies in 2D and wait till more 3D content arrives.

that1guypictures, Good point. I kept the depth of Conversion at 5, which is the factory setting on the PN50C7000. As you move the number up, you lose image space even if you gain some additional 3D look, but, for me, 5 seemed perfectly balanced and less aggressive in terms of eye strain.

Also, Im curious if people might also share if, the more they consume 3D content, the more tolerance they build toward long term consumption of content. This of course would apply to all 3D not just conversions...

As for your take on things Jimmy, thats why I say milage varies depending on content. Clash of the Titans may have had a coloring issue, or a number of other things in its original version which made it not a good candidate for conversion, even with the $10 million dollar budget on the process. If I threw $50 million at it, I doubt I could make Casablanca look great in 3D, as, sometimes, the source is just not suited to the task (nor do I hope anyone even tries!).

On the other hand, the new Battlestar Galactica in 3D, especially the mini-series, has to be seen to be believed, despite your claim on how unintelligent my TV is at its processing of the source material.

What else can you do with the 3D feature now? The fact there are about 4 movies now, and not much coming out soon doesn't help. The guy seems pleased to use this feature. Atleast the 2d to 3d thing will allow you to do more than watch Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs for the 12th time.

(I am interested about watching 8 1/2 in 3D, but I wonder how does it look with video games?)

Couldn't tell you on that one- as I have a Samsung Plasma, I don't dare game with it for fear of image burn in from tickers, power meters, etc

I've had my 638000 plasma for almost 3 months and have played games from day one with not a hint of IR.

I have the Samsung Plasma 58 3d tv and games look great too! Motorstorm pacific rift demo looked fine as did the mlb. The best to me was Super Stardust HD....it was a great effect.....the 2d to 3d conversion even works on regular games but I haven't seen any with great effect yet....the main problem is my eyes get tired faster even with 3d from games than movies. I'm not sure how great this will be for longer games but those short ones or for an hour or so..awesome.

I am also interested in this discussion so others please comment as I have thousands of movies and would love to get more out of the 3d content.

After the first 100 hours of use, I wouldn't be afraid to play video games on any Plasma. I do so all the time. Just make sure to take breaks, and turn the TV off when you pause. Sammy and Panny can both take the abuse. You may seem some temporary image retention (Light impressions on the screen that go away once a brighter image plays on top of it for a few mintues) but this is a normal function of any Plasma. Panasonic TV's seem to be more sensitive to it than most Samsungs typically.

I've only played with my 2d to 3D conversion a little bit. But one thing Ive noticed is that sometimes wide open spaces look pretty good, like scenery shots, or outdoor scenes. Every now and then you get a shot that makes you think, wow, that looks cool. I'll have to check out some of Battlestar Galactica with it on one of these days. I've been wanting to watch the first season again anyway.

I should try out Star Wars.

Try King Kong. I watched the ending tower sequence with the 3D on and it looked kind of cool. And I watched a little of the island stuff with it on too. There was some ok depth there. The scene in 2012 where the volcano explodes and they are trying to get away from it looked alright.

I have a DVD with music and landscapes I've been thinking about trying out.

Alright, let me get this thread going some more... I enjoy testing all movies I have using the 2D-3D conversion and like others have found some look great and some don't. I however am using a Sony Bravia LX900 and not a Samsung.
So let me post some of my favs,

Back to the Future 2 - Looked great at times
Star Wars - Any one of them is cool in 3D, space scenes have much depth
Finding Nemo - Some open shots looked great
Shrek - I have watched all and some scenes look cool converted to 3D
Lord of the Rings - Once again watched all, open scenes have great depth!

I highly suggest people really test some movies and try because you may be surprised how great some look, don't bad mouth something till you actually try! It also helps to use movies without much film grain. I noticed movies with to much film grain kinda ruin the 3D (for me anyways, film grain annoys me anyways)

Default Movie you'd most like to see in 3D

Below is a short list of titles I have in mind:

Terminator 2

2001 Space Odyessy

Batman: Dark Knight

Iron Man

Hulk (Second One)

Spiderman II

iRobot

Transformers

Resident Evil Series

Underworld

Just a few I think would be worthy...

You're welcome.

I was thinking about trying The Lord Of The Rings too, because of all the scenery. I'm going to put in Star Wars and watch the final battle for the death star in 3D, and see how it looks. I look forward to getting the series on blu-ray too. But aren't' they being made for 3D? I'm not sure I want to buy the entire series again in 2D, and then yet again down the road on Blu-ray 3D.

I think it actually is gonna be shot in the format.

I think the original Tron might be worthy of the 3D treatment.

Image burn is more or less absent now. This was happening back in the early days of Plasma, not now.If that was the case when you watch a tv station most have a network insignia in the bottom corner that could easily burn into your screen. I have a plasma and I game on it and I've never had any image burn.
I think your safe unless you have a very old plasma.

How about Blade Runner or Speed Racer even though it's a stink of a film the race sequences would surely pop with vibrancy. Big question is does anyone own it?
My two cents thrown in about this thread. I don't own a 3-D television yet. Like some I'm waiting to see what happens with the technology with a touch more time. Also one of the big hold backs for me is content. Where is it? If I want to take the leap I need more than a few animated films to watch.
So when I found this thread of members using the 3-D setting on 2-D films it made me interested. Does it do much? I would like to hear more about it. So I say watch those 2-D films using the 3-D setting and let us know what they look like.

Please, original format only. 2001 Space Odyssey? Let’s make Citizen Kane in 3-D while we’re at it (after colorization of course).

Cu'mmmmmmmon, Space Odyssey looks fantastic already...3D would pop some of those space scenes.

I've tried two of the Star Wars movies with the conversion on. Watched some of the space battles. Some of it did look alright, but it wasn't long before I turned the 3D off. I just can't get into the generic conversion for long. But I still want to to see how Battlestar Galactica looks.
