Can someone from this forum do a group buy re this please, as HDN's policy of having to a written so many posts to take part in their group buys is restrictive.

Pretty sure someone will host a GB here, or you can always ask a member here to get one for you.
Btw, you only need 20 posts for HDN, wich is pretty easy to get.

Fork will probably do one now that details have been released. He's done all of the other Canadian Mondo releases so far.

It's a US Target exclusive this time around.

I want. That's seriously all I could get out of my mouth when I saw the artwork.

That aside, very excited for this and Shaun of the Dead. Both are looking quite top. Not sure about Flash but might just pick it up for the heck of it.

Since this cover art has been getting mixed reviews what about any of these others options? Which would you choose?

I think this one would match the Shawn of the Dead release most:

Now anyone of these would have been awesome, especially the ones with Macready, since we get to see actual characters from the movie, not some random art.

Mondo artwork is starting to become my favorite as far as design language. I am just not a fan of the movies that they decide to release. The Thing is an exception but I'm a bit disappointed in this artwork. I might still get this anyway because I am a fan of this movie and because I only have 1 Mondo steel so far. Looking forward to seeing their next release though.

For anyone that cares about the disc itself, it's missing extras that are on the UK release. Also, all Blu-rays of the film are DNR'd and have less detail than the HD-DVD. I won't be rebuying this until they release a proper transfer.
Is the transfer that bad on the blu-ray? How did the reviewers here give it 4 of 5 then?

I like the cover art. I think Jock's is the best one. Some just don't like that it's not centered on the steel.

I'm sure it'll look amazing in hand.

No it is not! Whatever DNR may have been used is at best minimal, and the pq is very good. This is no Predator of Terminator 2 Skynet edition, detail is there and quite nice.

Count me as one of those, this is a great Steelbook that could have been Steelbook of the Year contender if the front was centered. I get they were going for the wraparound, but I've never seen someone display Steelbooks with it open facing out.

so here's a question that I've been wondering for awhile--

when you buy a blu ray again that's been re-released as a steelbook or digi-book or whatever... is there any difference at all in picture quality?

I realize that it's the same transfer but would a disc manufactured today be any better than a disc manufactured 6 years ago as in THE THING's case?

the reason it is not centered on the front cover is because the cover art extends to the back cover.

This will be the same exact pq that every other version of this film has on bluray.
