Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray Edward Scissorhands 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray. Featuring an all-new 4K transfer, the release will be available for purchase on October 13.

Johnny Depp delivers the performance of a lifetime as Edward, an irresistibly charming creation with razor-sharp metal hands and a heart of gold. Edward's lonely life in a Gothic castle changes forever when he meets a kindhearted Avon Lady (Dianne Wiest), who takes him to a pastel paradise known as Suburbia. Thanks to his fantastic talents, Edward becomes a neighborhood sensation, but when he falls in love with Kim (Winona Ryder), he must go to extraordinary lengths to protect her.

The beautifully restored EDWARD SCISSORHANDS: 25th ANNIVERSARY Blu-ray showcases Burton's magical use of color, light and shadow, with clear, rich detail in even the darkest scenes. Considered Burton's most personal and favorite work, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS is one of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's most successful films. Nominated for an Academy Award® for "Best Makeup", the romantic dark fantasy film is recognized as a quintessential icon for Goth subculture.

The EDWARD SCISSORHANDS: 25th ANNIVERSARY Giftset comes with the beautifully remastered, all-new 4k Blu-ray, Digital HD and custom paper dolls, a heart shaped cookie cutter and a topiary air freshener that smells like fresh cut grass.

Special Features:
Tim Burton Featurette
Audio Commentary by Tim Burton
Audio Commentary by Danny Elfman

Had the older BD for years, glad this got a proper restoration! Obviously a better encode too. Day 1!

Last BD:Codec: MPEG-2 (17.88 Mbps) LOL you know the new one will be much higher bitrate and MPEG-4.

That would have been cool to be HD Audio 5.1
WAIT! wasn't the Elfman commentary the same track as the isolated score?

I wonder if they are done finalizing bonus features for this release. it seems almost bare bones. I'd love trailers and TV spots for sure.

His black-white stands out ugly against the green moss but it's not the worst. The red butterfly and the yellow butterfly were nice and stark, if a little dull. My vote still goes to the original 10th anniversary DVD art (but with the pastel houses in color, as with the original theatrical poster). That DVD had beautiful menus too.
It's not that they think they can outdo the original artwork, it's that they think they know better, because all their so-called marketing research and focus groups lead them to believe that the original art is outdated, and will not help sell the product. Original poster art, especially on older catalog titles, versus photoshop; they honestly believe it's better.

I created an entire thread about evolution of the original theatrical poster art, to VHS, laserdisc, DVD and now Blu-ray.

Being an MPEG 2 with a LOW bitrate, the original release still doesn't look half bad. This new AVC encoded 4K transfer should obviously beat the pants off the original release though hands down!!!!!

So will this get a new lossless audio track or is it only a video remaster?

SO this gets re mastered from FOX.. yet the Die Hard set with the toy tower does not...

I wish I understood these companies, I really wish I got the logic, and they wonder why people just stream and not buy physical media..

At this point EVERY title should be from a 4K scan... EVERY ONE!

I'm not a fan of either of those covers. Also, was there a commentary by Burton on the original BD? I can't remember.

not sure about the original BD, but the DVD did have a Burton commentary... from what i recall listening to it years ago it was one of the dullest commentaries i've ever heard, and he seems to just about give up halfway thru the movie.
