"For I’ve laid eyes on the most beautiful consumer TV I’ve ever seen. The inkiness, the vibrancy, the realism, the purity, the lucidity: every single element was homing in onto my super-tuned photoreceptors, reinforcing my belief that ’twas a screen that blew every other display out of the water. It was love at first sight; it was absolute bliss – I could stand there all day watching the picture delivered by the new Panasonic CZ950 series of 4K OLED television."

"Groundbreaking light control
This sort of extreme contrast content further reveals that as promised, the 65CZ950 delivers much better control over its ‘just above black’ light handling than the LG 65EF9500. Black areas retain their blackness no matter how intense the bright parts of the picture become, rather than them suddenly becoming infused with greyness as can happen with the LG set. You’ve also got far more flexibility over how high you can push the Panasonic’s brightness before black levels give out. While we’re on the subject of things the 65CZ950 does better than LG’s 65EF9500, it’s a huge relief to find Panasonic’s set exhibiting no significant sign of the dimness at the left and right edges of the screen that sometimes creates a vignetting effect on the LG model. Every now and then a fairly monotone mid-brightness shot on the 65CZ950 would make me feel vaguely aware of an extremely slight brightness variation towards the screen’s edges, but the effect is so faint it’s barely worth mentioning, and certainly doesn’t become something you start to look out for." (John Archer, Forbes 30 October 2015 4 pg. review.) Archer calls the Panasonic OLED the best TV he has seen in his 20 year career. http://www.forbes.com/forbes/welcome/ (Search for John Archer) Last edited by raygendreau; 10-31-2015 at 06:05 PM. |

Smells like exaggeration to me, but at least half of that elation is due to the benefit of cherrypicked panels....anyhow, too bad it's curved. And some other reports note that vignetting is still visible to say nothing of the yellow streak that appeared on at least one of the demos.

John Archer reviewed the recent Leeds shootout featuring the new Panasonic OLED, the LG EF9500 (950 in the UK) and a Plasma. Voting was 12 for the Panny, 11 for the LG and 3 for the Plasma. Archer speculates that more would have voted for the Panasonic if it had not been curved.
The LG EF950 UK forum owners thread has been growing by several pages a day since the price drop in the UK. Currys has an exclusive and is selling out as soon as they receive shipments due to backorders. Samsung and Sony had best get into the OLED (consumer not pro) game or LG will leave them in the dust. In just a few years, you won't be able to consider yourself a videophile/enthusiast if you don't own an OLED. ![]() http://www.forbes.com/forbes/welcome/ You might need to copy and paste the above link for direct access to the story. Very nice to finally see some "real" tests of these beasts. Very surprised the new LG held up so well against Pana. Maybe LG have worked the early kinks out. Like shadowdetail all is talking about since todays Oleds clips too early and Pana was the first to adress that.

If it goes for several thousands of dollars, then for me the subject is moot.
I'm very brand loyal to Panasonic, going all the way back to when my two grandmothers got me a Panasonic audio cassette recorder for my eleventh birthday in 1970! I've always had nothing but Panasonic TVs my entire life, and am currently still viewing most things on my 2008 Panasonic Plasma. Eventually, I'm going to want nothing less than a Panasonic 4K OLED TV. When Panasonic has one for me in the USA at the right price and in the screen size I want, I'll be there. |

Panasonic announced at CES in January that they were going to sell this in the U.S. but there has been no word since then and Robert says above that they currently have no plans to do so. At any rate, Panasonic is literally way behind the curve on this one, since the panel is curved (unacceptable to many including me) and is an out of date 2015 LG panel (Panasonic does not make OLED panels and gets them from LG). The 2016 LG panel is much better. The Panasonic electronic control is unquestionably superior to LG and I would pay the extra for it if it were available on a flat 2016 LG panel, but that is most unlikely and meanwhile I bought myself an LG 65E6 as a significant step up from my trusty Panasonic 50" plasma and am very happy with the E6. I do wish LG had Panasonic's quality control. I've always been a huge fan of Panasonic and if I wanted an LCD/LED (which I don't) I would get a Panasonic.
