The one nice thing it might do at release or after is show stock available maybe at certain stores, also interesting thing is that it is prominently displaying a rated R logo sticker on the front so hopefully parents don't have a meltdown and show it to their kids by mistake.

You say that now, release day I bet there would be a bunch of angry messages against target WB etc, because they didn't have the brain cells to bother and check the movie rating for something they buy.
I know a lot of adults, who just go Batman = ok for kids without bothering to check. Friend of family had a meltdown when she bought Assault on Arkham for her 10 year old, and watched it with them just assuming it would be ok and kid friendly since its a "cartoon." (In my opinion their own fault for not reading rating) On flipside I have seen parents like you say who just don't care. In line to checkout at a Gamestop, mother on her phone in front of me, and rep says "Mam this video game GTA 5 is rated M, your son is age 11 are you ok with purchasing this game, it is highly violet, there is use of drugs, guns etc" Mom "Should I be getting this game, the man says its not ok for you?" (SHES ASKING THE 11 YEAR OLD WHAT THE HELL DOES SHE THINK HES GOING TO SAY) Kid, "But mommmm jake has it at his house and I want to play with him." Without batting an eye checks out. In that case stupid parent, but regardless when in either case *IF* a parent chooses to get angry or mad etc, who do they blame? Studio, developer store rep etc. Just the stupidity on their own part. |

After working in the public sector for well over a decade, it can go both ways. I have had parents "inconvenienced" and "appalled" that they had to walk all the way back electronics to purchase M rated games despite the kid having said parent's ID and credit card. I've had parents that will let kids walk all over them. Parents who literally just don't give a flip how their kid reacts or what they do or what they play or what they watch. On the flip-side, there are parents who know how to say "no" or listen to what I had to say about content. It all depends who it is. So, it's a coin-toss these days. Not one extreme or the other.

It all comes down to the planogram set by corporate. And trust me, Target corporate is as dumb as they come...

As a parent myself, I have not had to cross this bridge yet as my two kids are pretty young, but when the time comes I'll be stricter on what they do and don't see compared to some, to a degree. Having said that, I do believe majority of parents out there just don't care (or they lack giving any of their attention) to what their kids are watching and playing. This goes for tv/movies and video games. As a former retail employee, it's a bit surprising..

We're all from the north, so let's just blame the south
![]() Kidding, I do agree with Rick that it boils down to proper parenting, and I don't believe the majority of parents out there are bad. We sadly mostly see examples of bad parenting on the news, which is inevitable, and I'm sure bad parents also stand out more in ones' memory than a parent doing the right thing, which you might not take notice of at all. |
