They removed it because of the switch version. There reasoning is the exact point of the Wii u. They just didn't want them to have different features.

It's a "feature" I never use anyway, it's a hindrance. In Twilight Princess, I use the on-screen map, or pause the game to switch weapons. In Mario Kart 8 I also use the on-screen map. I never look at the Gamepad during play because then I could crash into a wall or get killed by a shadow creature.

For you UK people, looks like Amazon UK lowered the price to normal levels.

If we have to make stupid hand signs into the camera of Joy-Con R, I'm gonna be very annoyed.
The motion controls are the precise reason I never played Skyward Sword
I despise motion, especially FORCED motion controls. If it is given as an option, sure no problem, everyone wins.

That's why I assumed it was not going to happen or have to be patched in. 900p30 to 1080p60 is a huge jump on any hardware and especially that fast. The only thing that helped the idea was that the demo could be an older build, but since Nintendo specifically said the Switch version is 900p, I wouldn't expect it to pan out to be true.

I still cannot believe that game can't hit 1080p docked. I mean, technically it's a last gen game and due to it's art style, it's not that graphically demanding .

It's the damn grass. Each blade of grass is rendered separately, which is what's causing frame drops at even 900p. Apparently, based on reports of people that played the game at the demo events, Zelda performs better in handheld mode since its rendering at 720p.

I can live with 900p, that's not a HUGE deal for me; there are games on PS4 in 900p that look fantastic.

I'd prefer to have less of the terrible pop and better optimization than was shown in the gameplay videos people posted. It really pulls me out of it when games have such bad pop in.

I'll take a slight hit to resolution with a bump in performance any day.

I personally don't mind. I hardly every use the screen on the GamePad. I hardly use the GamePad at all. I use the Pro Controller as much as I can. It feels better for me and I enjoy the games more. Looking up and down gets annoying after a while.

a second screen on your lap was always useless, and/or distracting, did they need 5 years to realize that?

In the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter, I agree. However this is a 1st year port of whats technically a last gen game. The fact that the Switch already can't push it to 1080p, is concerning for future games and the level of complexity they can really have.

I disagree.

I originally had huge paragraphs but decided to delete them and simply say "I disagree"

I do also. For example look at launch PS3 games compared to say the last of us. I mean launch games barely looked better than PS2 games. The switch has a completely different architecture then the Wii u. Who knows what porting that game was like.

I still think Zelda looks great on switch. I'm sure had it been developed from the ground up on switch it would look even better. Who knows how much better but considering its a port I don't think it's the best way to judge overall power of the system.

They only started work on the switch version about a year ago,and the game was coded for the Wii U's very dated chipset which had to offer Wii backwards compatibility.

It would have been a different story had the game been made for the Nintendo switch from the ground up.

It's basically Twilight Princess part two. No one should expect a wild difference between the two versions.

"Yes, you will definitely cry"

Now that I changed my mind and have this and the system pre-ordered my hype level is getting even higher. I haven't experienced a new Zelda story in over a decade...I can't wait to dive back in

So there's going to be an alternate ending.

Quote:
Eiji Aonuma, the game's producer, recently spoke with IGN Portugal (via Ubergizmo) and revealed that Breath of the Wild will have a second ending that will unlock when players "meet certain criteria". Adding "If you do a few things, you may see a different ending."

At the moment we don't know what those criteria might be, since we don't actually know all that much about the game's story. That being said, given how players have already worked out a few bits and pieces using the Special Edition's map, it's more than likely that someone will work out how to unlock the secret ending pretty quickly.

And Nintendo being Nintendo, you have no option to change the audio for the game if you want to listen to one of the other dubs. Of course all of those audio options are actually contained on the cart but the only way to access them is to change the language settings on your system (which means you have no access to English subs and/or menus) That's certainly disappointing as out of all of the versions I heard so far, the English version seemed to be the weakest. If everything is already on there, why lock it out? It surely can't be due to contracts because you don't even have to circumvent anything in the console to access the other audio.

Aonuma wants you to be immersed* in the voice acting, which is hard to do when you're reading subtitles. You can change the audio by changing the system language, as you mentioned, so the obvious solution is to learn another language. Either that, or stick with the English.

*Active listening. If you're reading, you're only passively listening.

Because something that takes years to master is the ideal solution over an easy to implement process. I have no problem being immersed when I watch foreign films and TV shows (or even other games as well) with English subtitles, I think I'd be just fine with this game as well.

Also if Aonuma mentioned that was the reason why you can't do it, I haven't seen it anywhere. If that's his reasoning behind it, fair enough but the only thing I read was that he just said it wasn't possible to play it in Japanese with English subtitles.

I prefer the English version much more, tbh. Watch the Zelda crying scene from the trailer again. In English, the VO actress gives a soft natural cry that matches the animation of the on screen character. In the Japanese version, it's a melodramatic shriek. It's a video game, not a telenovela.

Can understand why it would be a problem for some, but its a non-issue for me. The English voice work in the trailer sounded good I thought. I also typically hate Japanese voice work across the board in video games, anime, etc. The style just doesn't work for me.
