not just in tv but in movies as well, when a character is about to leave a scene, someone (usually their romantic interest) says their name, but nothing else, just calls their name for no reason at all, and then says nothing else.

Never seen this in real life, only in movies. If anyone calls my name when Im about to leave, Im going to ask what they want and why they called me, but not in movies. Both characters are accomplices to this abnormal behavior, the person who calls the poor guy or girl whos about to go, and the person called, who thinks this is completely normal behavior and doesn't ask for reasons why people are randomly saying his or her name.

Id like to give an example because is annoyingly common but right now I cant think of one movie where they do it, despite being incredibly commonplace, more so in the 80s and 90s.

What I want to know is if glass windows really do shatter when people are kicked or thrown towards them or does that kind of thing only happen in movies and TV shows because the glass is really stronger to withstand such a blow in real life.

God bless you always!!!

I've known a couple people that went through windows. They will break but people are severely injured. So for safety and expediency movies have that breakaway glass. Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop would have ended up in the hospital had he actually gone through that glass. More than likely in real life he would have bounced off. When I was young I was going out a front door when the storm door was about to slam in my face. I put my hand out to stop it and it went right through the storm window. Cut the shit out my arm. A neighbor put on a tourniquet thinking it had severed the artery due to all the blood. Ended up being just stiches since nothing major was cut.

Can you imagine an easy to break window on anything above a second floor?

Wow, that storm door glass must have been pretty lame unless that door was coming at you super fast?

God bless you always!!!

Plot armor ensuring the main character can't die, but still ridiculously dragging out "will he/she/they die" moments

People forgetting basic usages of technology, especially in sci fi (Star Trek is really bad at this)

Things working differently depending on what the plot needs, then this never being mentioned again ("On the first Tuesday of a new moon in January, we can phase through walls!")

Random information coming out of nowhere to suddenly solve a problem ("Your 4th grade teacher liked jellybeans but never let you have them! That's why you killed her!")

Using random tech/medical/whatever terms because they think the audience won't notice when they really make no sense ("You just to need to defragment the ip/tcp stack on the router!")

Sitcom families being portrayed as being perpetually strapped for cash yet having nice homes, cars, TVs, etc they could probably never really afford

Characters kids just conveniently not show up or even be mentioned when the plot demands it, which then magically appear later to remind us they exist (Some shows the kids just aren't even mentioned for many episodes at a time.... or on reality shows, you just wonder who is actually watching these kids)

Cops/FBI Agents that shoot a perp - then walk away to finish their paperwork. This never happens in real life. A special team is sent to an officer involved shooting right where it happened. They are not allowed to leave the scene. They must give up their weapon.

The dorm rooms that are shown during the one season of Saved By The Bell: The College Years are different compared to the homes that you point out. The Home Improvement House is also nothing like the ones that you point out.

God bless you always!!!

When someone is driving and they feel dizzy or get blurry vision, they never stop the car and pull off the road. They keep trying to drive until they crash.

^^^ Sometimes that crash may happen anyway depending on how bad off the person has become. I know because I saw it happen once. Thankfully, no one was killed in the process.

God bless you always!!!

It happens A LOT on Blue Bloods. Danny and Baez are driving to an address to interview someone and lo and behold, they ALWAYS get a parking space right in front of the address. Even in downtown NYC!

Insanely large apartments particularly in NYC. No way could they afford the apartment in “Friends”.

The Real Deal With Monica’s Apartment: How Did They Afford It, Why Is It Purple, and Everything Else You’ve Ever Wanted To Know

Quote:
6. But seriously, how could Monica afford that apartment?

At last, the million dollar question, with a very simple answer. Two, actually. The explanation given on “Friends” is that Monica was illegally subletting her grandmother’s rent-controlled apartment. To be clear, that’s not the same as “rent-stabilized.” Rent-control only applies to tenants who have been living in an apartment since July 1, 1971 or earlier. (Read more on this here, if you’re interested in the historical intricacies of New York City rent laws!) The rent on those apartments cannot be raised as long as that tenant still lives there, so—in the words of Chandler Bing—they are “a friggin’ steal.” Most of the few remaining rent-control tenants pay about $800 a month for their apartments—but some pay as little as 30 or 50 bucks. I KNOW.
