I'm still probably most nostalgic for horror from the 80s since it was the decade I was born and have the most fond memories with the genre. The mom and pop video stores usually had a dedicated horror section filled with posters, standees, and other gimmicky promotional items that we were a lot of fun and set the mood for the movies. Many of them still hold up well, others not so much (especially the countless blatant ripoffs/cash grabs). Probably the main problem right now is there's a few years generational gap between me and my girl. Her preferred horror is the post-Scream variety that tends to be faster paced with plenty of jump scares. So most of the (older) movies I watch at home she's always riffing on the set design, the overacting, cheesy synth score, etc. It's hard to enjoy them as much anymore unless I can find time to watch them alone which isn't as often anymore given we have the same schedule.

I love the horror genre, specifically movies that have monsters like Godzilla 1954, or movies with preternatural elements like The Conjuring 2.

Because I enjoy them. I'm now an adult, I know these are just movies so why would they scare me like they used to when I was a kid. You don't have to be scared of horror films to enjoy them.

Horror is the top genre I'm most addicted too. Every year I can't wait for October to approach so I can do my annual 2 month horror marathon (Sept-Oct due to the amount I have to watch). Last year was almost 200 horror films. Its such a great genre that doesn't get enough appreciation. The 70s and 80s are my favorite decades for horror. The 90s had some good ones and the 2000's have had their share of great ones too so far. Too much crap though as well unfortunately.

I love horror and imo every decade had some excellent and awful movies. I don't limit my search for horror to specific countries. There's a lot of really great horror being made outside of America and the UK. I'm especially fond of Asian horror as they don't rely on jump scares to scare you.

Default It's Time for CHILLER!

I remember running home from elementary school to pop on the TV and watch my favorite show: Chiller

The introduction to the show was an old Grandfather Clock with cob webs and a loud Tick-Tock-Tick-Tock.

Then the announcer would come on and say: It’s time for CHILLER!

Plenty of movies with Dracula, The Wolfman, Frankenstein’s Monster, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Phantom of the Opera, etc.

So, yes, I’m a true Horror fan.

Being scared is not exclusive to childhood. And knowing that "it's only a movie" (to coin the tagline from Last House On The Left) does not rob a film of its ability to horrify.

My wife and I are both massive horror movie fanatics.
For us its not so much about being scared, we just love the "atmosphere" of horror movies.

We have a huge horror statue collection, also as the original poster likes Critters, we have a very realistic 1:1 hand made Critter in our home that we absolutely love! Very Detailed... (and hairy lol)...

Too many horror movies for me to list but here are some of my favourites:

Childs Play / Halloween / Wrong Turn / Hellraiser / Freddy / Jason / Phantasm
Martyrs
Trick r Treat
Scream Franchise (TV show is pretty good too)
The Evil Dead 1&2
Devils Rejects
The Shining
Return of the Living Dead 1-3
Critters / Gremlins / Ghoulies
Halloween
High Tension
May
Feast 1-3
People Under the Stairs
Krampus / A Christmas Horror Story (Very under-rated movie IMO)
Crimson Peak

I'm definitely a huge horror movie fan. I think being born in October a little before Halloween has something to do with it. I've always loved the haunted house. I was born in the 80's so I was to young to Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm St first came out but saw them in the 90's as kid feel in love with them ever since. I also remember being freaked out by the Tall man from the Phantasam movies. People need to quiet being so critical or over analytical & just be entertained. Looking forward to Get Out coming out in a few wks & also for the IT remake in the fall. & many others coming out.

I thought Dumplings worked better as a short than as a full length movie.

First off get rid of that broad and secondly how is horror from before 1996 cheesy or bad? Is The Exorcist bad? Is A Nightmare On Elm Street bad? And don't piss on the score to Nightmare either, it's excellent.

Seen alot of titles come by, Asian horror also gets mentioned but not so much European horror.

Anybody watches giallo movies here or any movies by Argento/Fulci/Bava/Franco? What about those Italian zombie and cannibal flicks from the late 70s/early 80s? How about Spanish horror, the Blind Dead series for example or work by Paul Nashy?

While not exactly my favorite, the rape/revenge subgenre could also be considered horror I think. Last House On The Left and all its (European) imitators or movies like House On The Edge Of The Park.

And what about Troma, some of their older movies would fall into the horror/action/humor sub category I think. I always loved the first two Toxic Avenger movies.
