So BU are now 1 for 6 on Franco BDs...?

Girl From Rio, Blood of Fu Manchu, Castle of Fu Manchu, Eugenie, 99 Women...all bad.

Justine...good.

I tend to pick up a 'bad' BD from time to time...more to get a movie on the newer format more than anything else. There's just too many happening here. Not going to rebuy all the ones that BU licensed if they just aren't going to do them right. There's just too many.

I finally bought 99 WOMEN after the recent price drop and the PQ on the French version is really good. If BU can provide a second version like that for their future releases where the transfer on the main disc is extremely problematic I'll be happy.

The only Franco film I've liked is Count Dracula because it's a fascinating attempt to do a very authentic retelling of Stoker's tale on a very low budget with a great cast. Did he do anything else similar? Others I've seen are awful and I tend to have picked them up for the Christopher Lee connection.

I stopped buying after I picked up EUGENIE & JUSTINE.

I have been hoping for VENUS or EUGENIE DE SADE but now I am actually dreading more BU Franco announces.

The Awful Dr. Orloff isn't particularly similar thematically (the film is a reworking of Eyes Without a Face but with the father in this case seeking a new face, as opposed to new eyes, for his disfigured daughter), but it is probably one of his most straight-forward and traditional films, with some evocative B & W cinematography and a memorable central performance from the reliably charismatic and creepy Howard Vernon.

In International news, Blue Rita is only 10 Euros from Amazon DE. (Dracula, Prisoner of Frankenstein is still 16.99.)

Worth noting that Nucleus Films are working on what appears to be the definitive edition of Franco's THE DEMONS (1973) for UK release. Both English and French cuts, deleted scenes, a Stephen Thrower interview, stills galleries (including a few goodies from the ol' Arcana Archives), trailers, etc.

The back of the Redemption release contends it is "the complete, uncensored version of the film". The film looks pretty darn good. And it includes six minutes of deleted footage as an extra. What's the main reason to go after this Nucleus release? What's the difference between the English and French cuts?

Hard to say, this might be the same as Redemption's, just licensed for the UK.

No doubt some unique extras will be part of the package.

Does no good for me as it is not the director's version of the film.

Was it mentioned yet that Franco's KILLER BARBYS (1996) was confirmed as a Redemption release for 9/26?

Anyone have any word on the German Blu of DRACULA PRISONER OF FRANKENSTEIN from Alive that came out yesterday?

Their HOUSE THAT SCREAMED is reportedly a disaster, so need some info on this before I order.

There is a one-star review on the Amazon.de page, but Google Translate is a bit of a mess (and this comes from someone who often buys my dear deceased from the money dear tomb jewelry):

Quote:
The wonderful visual appearance of this Blu-ray made me feel like a trashy reunion with Dracula and Frankenstein in the early 70s. I succumbed to this chewing pack. But what is actually offered for its nearly 18 Euronen is a remarkable underground image quality of the Jess Franco ham on VHS level !! I do not even want to talk about the action - Buy your dear deceased from the money dear tomb jewelry. COLLOSSEO Film - go to hell !!

Looks like Severin's next Franco Blu is TWO FEMALE SPIES WITH FLOWERED PANTIES (1980), due 8/29:

https://severin-films.com/shop/two-female-spies-bluray/

Quote:
Jess Franco’s Insane ‘70s Erotic Thriller Restored In HD For The First Time Ever!

In this long-unseen shocker from “one of filmdom’s most provocative creators” (The A.V. Club), the legendary Jess Franco (VAMPYROS LESBOS) pushes the limits of psycho-sexual insanity like never before: Lina Romay (of BARBED WIRE DOLLS and MACUMBA SEXUAL infamy) and Lynn Monteil (of Jean Rollin’s ZOMBIE LAKE and Franco’s SADOMANIA) star as a pair of cunning bisexual strippers released from prison to work undercover for the U.S. government. What follows is a deranged mélange of kinky threesomes, crazed S&M, depraved white slavers and audacious international politics that will leave even the most obsessive Franco fanatics slack-jawed in astonishment. Olivier Mathot (CANNIBAL TERROR), Joëlle Le Quément (WOMEN BEHIND BARS) and Claude Boisson (DEVIL HUNTER) co-star in this EuroSleaze rarity, now restored uncut in HD and loaded with exclusive Bonus Materials from the Franco archives.

PLEASE NOTE: The first 3000 Blu-rays will include a strictly limited DVD of the salacious alternate Spanish cut of the movie: OPAL OF FIRE, MERCHANTS OF SEX!

Special Features:
*Two Cats In The Canaries: An Interview With Director Jess Franco
*Filmmaker Donald Farmer Interviews Longtime Franco Composer Daniel White
*Stephen Thrower on TWO FEMALE SPIES
*Location Out-takes
*Theatrical Trailer

That trailer looks overly dark, much like the recent remastered Spanish tv broadcast. I hope this looks a lot better than that did.

This is getting into the waters of Franco's career I tread lightly, so glad there extras of note. That makes it easier to support this release in spite of it not being a must have for me. Spanish version is largely forgettable but it's a nice inclusion.

Some great pictures that will be a solid piece in the collections! Our printer is sending next week the sizes and samples of the posters so we will post them here and perhaps on our website.

...And already posted by Bruce Holocheck, but ML has confined the 9/26 release date for Killer Barbys in his latest 'Coming Soon' post.
