@Wildcat,

I don't want to be the "not true" guy here, hehe, but I would say the main attraction of Ghostbusters ís the cast, it's what made the movie work and loved in the first place. You can argue not all of them were first choice to begin with, but that doesn't change anything in the end. That's like saying Ford isn't important for Indiana Jones, cause he wasn't the first choice either, it could have been Tom Seleck. Yet, it's Ford that made it work. Ghostbusters is not different.

For the record, I haven't seen the new Ghostbusters yet. But so far I have no problem with it and I do want to check it out.

Well, yeah. The characters in the original Ghostbusters were more grounded. In the remake, the characters felt like cartoons.

Well you do make a good point. I like the original cast as much as anyone else.

It's just in general it's about ghostbusting. I mean that was Dan Aykroyd's point in make it. Wasn't it? I just don't like how some make it out to be a dumb excuse for the cast to work together.

I have been told this too. That the ghostbusting element isn't that important. That it could have been about anything.

That's not so much of "not messing with the legacy" as they legally can't do it. Any remake needs the OK from Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale.... Neither of which will give the OK. A remake will probably get greenlit shorty after both are dead...Once Universal has free reign.

The same way we'll get an E.T. sequel when Spielberg is gone, and we'll get the theatrical cuts of the Star Wars movies when Lucas is gone.

They can do that right now, since Lucas no longer owns Star Wars anymore.

It depends on the terms of his contract. Knowing Lucas' extreme protection of his creations, I wouldn't be surprised if he banned all future distribution of the theatrical cuts as part of the company's sale.

Zemeckis & Gale are working with their estates, to keep that ban going after they're gone.

And yet, Disney went with a completely different direction with these new Star Wars movies than what Lucas originally visioned. Which left Lucas upset of course. Making me believe that Disney are not handcuff to what they want to do with the franchise.

Lucas upset? He's endorsed both movies so far, and reportedly was thrilled with Rogue One.

Who agrees with what i said? this franchise needs to be left alone for Sony needs to do new franchises or go bankrupt.

The franchise died with Harold.

Agreed. I just didn't really find the movie to be that funny. Leslie Jones was terribly unfunny, and Melissa and Kristen feel like they don't even really try. They just both kind of exist awkwardly within the space of the film. Hemsworth and McKinnon were both hilarious to me though. Sadly the characters (not the actors) never really felt like they bonded. Even by the end of the film I feel like they were a team because the script say they're supposed to be a team.

The villain was also pathetically cringe inducing.

Thats because casting and characters make a movie. The original G-busters was awesome mainly because of the cast and their perfect portrayal of their characters. The remake is extremely stupid and pointless. Thats why it bombed and is considered a joke.

Dan Aykroyd Slams GHOSTBUSTERS Director Paul Feig; "He Will Not Be Back On The Sony Lot Any Time Soon"

Quote:
Ghostbusters was neither a critical nor commercial hit last year, so it was far from surprising when we learned that a sequel isn't on the way. The performance of the movie has also ruined any chances of those planned spinoffs happening too, one of which was reportedly going to feature a male team and another that would have been animated and seemingly aimed at a slightly younger audience.

It's no wonder then that executive producer Dan Akroyd - who was one of those tasked with spearheading a shared Ghostbusters Universe - isn't happy then, something he made clear in a recent interview on UK TV show Sunday Brunch. Asked to share his thoughts on what's next for the franchise, the star and co-writer of the original laid the blame squarely at the feet of reboot director Paul Feig.

"[Ghostbusters] made a lot of money around the world but just cost too much, making it economically not feasible to do another one. So that’s too bad. The director, he spent too much on it. He didn’t shoot scenes we suggested to him and several scenes that were going to be needed and he said, ‘Nah, we don’t need them.’ Then we tested the movie and they needed them and he had to go back. About $30 to $40-million in reshoots. So he will not be back on the Sony lot any time soon."

Ouch! Interestingly, subsequent broadcasts of the show have seen Akroyd's comments edited out, a result perhaps of his representatives requesting that they be removed given how much of a stir they're inevitably going to cause. The damage has been done now, though, and it will be interesting to see what happens next. In fairness to Akroyd, it doesn't sound like he's being too unfair! Thoughts?

You know you dun f***'d up when even Dan Aykroyd himself talks shit about Paul Feig.

Too little, too late Dan.

He has himself to blame. He was so eager to get a Ghostbusters movie, ANY Ghostbusters movie made and get the paycheck, that he let it happen.

You can just look at that project and feel how not on the same page everyone was. I think it'd make for a fascinating Alien 3 style documentary. I really hope we get something like that in a decade or so.

Funny that you mentioned an Alien3 style doc.
Somebody on YouTube called Midnight Edge has done some videos that's close to that and it's fascinating to say the least.
