I'm still waiting on mine here in the states. I decided to go with Zavvi as well, considering the amazon debacle. I'm glad they have the slipcover!

Its $10 more, but Zavvi ships in hard cardboard mailers. Amazon ships in bubble mailers, which would guarantee it being smashed to smithereens. My last bluray order from Amazon (UK) had the bluray case pretty much shattered and cover ripped up, I can't believe the disc survived.

Has this been confirmed to be in the proper aspect ratio? Signature Entertainment has been known to crop releases.

Yeah it's fine.

All recent releases like Pet, Rupture etc.. have been OAR

Think those issues were teething issues with the label.

My Amazon pre order finally arrived today. No slip. Pretty mental delay. Have Amazon commented on it?

I was worried about the restocked copies not having a slip. Oh well. I guess the delay was just due to Amazon selling through their first batch of copies and then having to wait for more to arrive.

Finally received my copy in the mail today. Slipcover included. I can confirm the movie plays in my Region-A PS3. It looks and sounds okay. Few extras.

The movie itself is okay. Cinematography has some standout moments, and other parts can be bland. Characters and performances aren't particularly likable. But I do appreciate the story and what it strives for, and the gore/make-up effects are great.

Heads up, it's only available to Prime users now.

Had it sitting in my Amazon UK cart from Friday and went to buy it this morning only to find it was moved to the Save For Later section.

Shame as they had the cheapest price by about 5 pounds

Yesterday I saw The Void on streaming. The film had mixed reviews but was praised for its use of old-school practical creature FX. It was made by the same people that made Manborg, a humor-laced tribute to the 80's/90's DTV culture I enjoyed a good deal. John Carpenter is a major source of inspiration for this film, with its copious tribute to The Thing and Prince of Darkness, with a small helping of Clive Barker's Hellraiser. The visual FX are certainly well-done so far as one could see (it's rather dim-lit most of the time) and certain scenes evoke an undeniable atmosphere of dread, but the film falters badly in its scripting, with a motley of characters too sketchily written to care much about. The haphazard cutting between different events makes it hard to focus on any of them, and after a point I was like "ya well, whatever", just focusing on the visual goodies. It's a nice showreel for the makers' technical FX chops, but an interesting film it ain't.

I had marked the UK blu-ray for purchase, but I was too underwhelmed by the film to ever consider re-watching it.

These so-so reviews are part of why i was so interested in grabbing form Amazon UK.
I really like the filmmakers and the type of thing they are doing (gloopy horror with physical fx) and i really want to throw some cash their way.
I was going to rent it via VOD but it's about $8 (CAD) to rent it in HD and this would have been about $19(CAD) so within the "maybe i'll watch it twice" range.
(The North American edition would swing me $30+ with conversion from USD to CAD and shipping)

I don't go in much for slasher or torture porn, but I do like a good monster movie, and The Void delivered for me. Some genuinely creepy moments. Sure, you can make a bullet list of movies that inspired various parts of it, but I enjoyed what it had for me.

I think it's just a difference in how they encoded the disc and what gamma they're working too, one looks BT.1884 the other 2.4.

I finally got around to watching my UK copy. Liked the movie a lot, but that encoding is not good at all. Banding and Macroblocking abound, especially in any scenes in
[Show spoiler]The Void part or in the basement.
It is to the point of being a little distracting. The bitrate is not overly low at 25mb/s, but they obviously did not have a skilled at hand at the encoding stage. Granted, it is Signature, so we should be glad to have a decent slate of extras and the presentation in OAR. I would definitely not pay Diabolik's price, but I would consider the DE or AUS imports if they popped up for cheap.

Just to illustrate my point, take a look at this screen cap. The blocking is noticeable even when looking at the normal size (not full screen) screenshot prior to any zooming.

You think the banding and macroblocking was bad on "The Void"? You need to check out their blu-ray of "Pet", which has an even worse case of banding and macroblocking.

Well that's nice to know. I picked that one up for cheap. Haven't watched it yet. They are like to Mill Creek of the UK except with higher prices.
