So if I had to guess, BOTW2, this and some other games will just be marketed as best on Switch Pro or whatever it's called and they'll have something else lined up for launch of the true Switch successor down the road. |

If they didn't fully scrap the game a year or two after they announced it for not meeting their performance standards and switched developers to Retro Studios, restarting development from the ground up, I'm sure it would have been about as on time as most other big name Nintendo games.

It's not like they knew Bandai-Namco was going fail and they'd have to restart. They announced it at the right time if the BN deal worked out. It's like Amazon giving you a 5 day ETA on your order but on day 3 the truck driver gets into massive accident and totals the truck and now they have to ship you a new item that'll take another 5 days. You wouldn't say that Amazon's initial shipping estimate was too short because the wreck was not what they wanted or expected to happen.

Open world Metroid could be interesting, but I have to say I hope they omit any "blood moon" style event. It constantly interrupted BotW and got old really quickly. Even in Bowser's Fury, having Bowser hop around every 5 minutes almost made me stop playing. |

I do not consider them FPS, they are not really what you call shooters, they are first person though and the change from 3rd person 2D to first person 3D was in my opinion brilliantly done. The atmosphere is the same. And in a way they are open world already, have been like that since the first one. Metroid Prime was created when the two 2D Metroids on GBA failed (Zero Mission + Fusion). When Prime 3 basically failed on the Wii (Metroid Prime 3 sold relatively poorly considering the huge Wii install base), they created Metroid Other M, which was a terrible game. When that failed badly, they created coop Metroid Prime on the 3DS, which was hated on by tons of so called fans, I liked it. Then they created the remake of Metroid 2 on the 3DS, which was 2D and also got hate, and also sold poorly, I kinda liked that too. Nintendo tried all sorts of variations, nothing really sticked. Metroid Prime 1 on Gamecube sold well, Metroid Prime 2 on Gamecube not so much. They are both on Wii U Virtual Console and play fantastically well on it. I even got the Japanese versions. I can't wrap my head around why Nintendo dumped the whole Virtual Console approach. |

They dumped it because having a monthly subscription that can be carried over between console cycles is better for them in the long term. It just sucks when the game of choice isn't on it yet. But in theory as long as I have a Nintendo console and a Nintendo Online subscription all the games released so far will always be accessible to play.
