Only the dubtitles need to be fixed. My point is, if there are no new additions/improvements as well, I don't see the need to double dip on something I already have.

I came close to buying Arrietty yesterday for $15CND. Think it's worth it to wait for the GKIDS release?

But reading about the UK dub, I am quite impressed by that cast.
I'm not complaining, I saw Disney's dub in the theaters and thought it was fine. I just didn't know if one of the reasons people seem to prefer this other dub was because they were the same.

I'm not complaining I already own the UK disc so I never have to listen to the crappy American dub again. I'm just letting people know that the upcomming Gkids version might include both dubs like the Australian special edition does.

it's a shame that grave of the fireflies and the wind rises are not part of this campaign. maybe in the future! the wind rises is one of my favourite ghibli releases.

It's speculated that The Wind Rises will be sometime in 2018. Grave probably won't be re-released by them though.

I already have some of these films...is it worth double dipping? What major differences are there in regards to the content? Thank you.

We won't know until closer to release day, but if anything changes it would be extras content (look at the Japanese silhouette releases for each title and compare to Disney releases to see what is missing), subtitle changes, and possibly a difference in picture encoding.

Nausicaa is the one that stands to benefit the most as far as the picture encoding goes, since the upgraded disc without hardcoded English credits is only in the box set. I think there was also a problem with one of the discs (Ponyo?) having a lossy audio track. That one will probably get the lossless track.

The thing I'm most curious about is whether this rerelease of Castle in the Sky will have the rescore by Joe Hisaishi added back to the dub... or at least the mix provided on the Japanese BD. The Japanese BD allowed Hisaishi's rescore (approved by the director) to stay on the dub track (minus the added in sound effects and occasional lines of dialogue), and the UK and Australian ones followed suit, so it seems odd it would be omitted from the US BD release. I do hope it gets added back.

Curious if theses will be the same transfers or if the PQ will be increased? I only own Nausica but have always wanted to pick up some of the others.

The biggest things will probably be fixed subtitles for them. The Mononoke Blu-ray for example just has the dubtitles.

Is there any chance they could remaster and release them in 4K?

I would think Japan would start the 4K bandwagon before US did, since it's their property.

Since i'm not familiar with GKIDS, I took the opportunity to pick up Disney's Spirited Away blu-ray with help from the ongoing Target 20% off movies cartwheel discount.

these were fixed for the box set right? that's what i have so there shouldn't be a reason to bother with these if i don't care much about special features, right?

i don't have any of the non-miyazaki movies though, so will def go with the gkids versions once i do.

The store in the Japan pavilion is not owned by Disney, they are just a tenant. So I bet they still have merchandise going forward.

Yes, the box set BDs have fixed subtitles. The special features are available on the old DVDs anyway, if you're really that interested and need a cheaper route.

It's definitely on purpose that Spirited Away is the only Ghibli film that isn't on sale, right? All of the others are $12-13 bucks whereas Spirited Away hasn't moved from $20 in a year now - or since release for that matter.
