"Hey let's release this japanese animation"
"Yeah but use western artstyle" A very 90's take, Viz |

Naruto’s creepy smile on the front cover would keep me awake. Believe it!

I think the outer packaging for the Scooby-Doo: Where Are You 50th Anniversary blu-ray set is really cool and definitely a collector’s piece. I just hate what they did with the inside - the crummy small digipak instead of an amaray, and the encyclopedia could have been much more substantial in content.

This reminds me of Viz's release of Sailor Moon R: The Movie and the controversy behind it.
![]() For better context, Viz Media was using the stock image artwork of Marco Albiero for their Sailor Moon releases up until this point. ![]() ![]() But when the artwork for the R Movie was revealed, the design seemed very disproportionate and it was later confirmed by Marco himself that he had not created it. The actual artist was never revealed, but pushback was loud enough for Viz to drastically change the way the S and SuperS Movie artworks looked. ![]() ![]() It's really bizarre how Viz Media has handled some of their home video releases. Offering the first volume of Hunter X Hunter (2011) as a Steelbook but not later volumes and releasing Season 21 of Pokémon as a complete collection Blu-ray release only to release Season 22 in 18-episode DVD volumes, Viz seems to have a real problem with consistency. They really need to get it together if they want to sell units. |

Well Hunter x Hunter Steelbook was a Best Buy Exclusive and I don’t think it did well enough to get it for later Volumes. I just think people were not buying the series at Best Buy in-general which is why very few Volumes made it into their stores. I think once Best Buy marked down the Steelbook to help get rid of it people started buying it. But by then it was like well I guess that’s it. There was never really a guarantee that Viz would continue.
Personally with Sailor Moon movies, R’s slipcover looks the best with S and SuperS looks great without the slipcover. Never liked the bland coverarts like from the TV series and R’s slipcover gave it a cover that basically tells you that it’s a movie just by looking at its slipcover. So count me as a person who was disappointed when Viz went back to the bland coverarts for the S and SuperS movies but at least the good cover is underneath the slipcover. |

I never boycott a release due to the artwork on the cover.....
Until now. Seriously....this looks so lame....i hope there will be a normal release after this abomination. No disrespect to the artist, they are talented....but this is disrespect to the original author and series creator of Naruto and I won't support this move by Viz. |

I would say the bigger problem is these covers don't really give people an idea of whats even included in the set. You can kind of guess it includes the first Naruto movie by the artwork but a random person who sees this in a store will have very little information about it not even knowing what the artwork normally looks like. That's fine for a collectors edition your trying to sell to people already looking for the item but its pretty awful for a standard edition your trying to sell to a new audience.
this is a trilogy I'm actually interested in buying but when i first saw it I had to google it and look up more information because going off targets page I could not tell much at all about the release and I wasn't even totally sure what movies the set came with going off just the cover. |
