The differences are slight, but it is a different remaster. For one thing, ALL the new "remasters" (prequels and OT) now feature the slightly altered 20th Century Fox logo as well as the Disney-era silver "Lucasfilm Ltd" logo. Phantom Menace specifically has one shot altered during the pod-race. And the gamma is quite different on it, as well.

Some Blue Underground's 4K UHD releases are a "Combo" that include an updated Blu-ray utilizing the newer transfer + new bonus features:





Their previous first few UHD releases included only a "Special Features" Blu-ray.

Dead & Buried and The Final Countdown have yet to be released, but they will be "Combo" releases. I would imagine they'll also include an updated Blu-ray disc.

I guess its Captain Obvious but SC's UHD Escape from New York has a BD disc with a new master. Region B locked however.

Which versions are these? UK? Because the US discs seem to be the same as the older ones.

Hm. That thread seems to have a very specific criteria for what's to be included. This thread is for new discs in general. Also doesn't look like that thread's been updated in a while.

Beverly hills cop 4k comes with a new 1080p transfer. I am not sure if it counts though because it is also used on the newer trilogy release as well. They both use the new 1080p and not the old bd.

I was referring to the US versions in all cases. I own all of these and have seen the upgraded BDs with my own eyes.

I just checked in DVDProfiler and the Blu-rays each have the same identical disc ID between the 2 releases, so they are indeed the same Blu-ray discs between the two releases. That's the only BU 4K I have yet to get since the transfer's color timing has issues.

It's definitely not the "older" 2009 Blu-ray disc included in the 4K Combo though then...

If all you do with your discs is watch the film then yeah, it's basically a coaster. That said, I do still have a 1080p-only setup in my room (even though I barely use it) and sometimes I do want to watch extras which are only included on the BD. I suppose some people would also want to loan out the BD to friends who don't have 4K, so there's also that. I figure the BD is like a firearm, better to have one and not need it than vice versa

As someone who has not yet made the jump to 4K I am pleasantly surprised at the 4K releases that come with blu rays that are newly remastered. Was wondering if we could put all of them in this thread. The blu rays have to have actual new transfers. They can't just be new discs with the same transfer. If there is already a thread on this feel free to lock and link to the thread. I searched for it.

The only ones I know of are:

Star Wars: A New Hope
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
Back to the Future Trilogy
