I love my Oppo 103 remote.
As much as I love Oppo, I just can't spend that much on a new one when I haven't had the 103 that long. So the Sony X-800 is now my player. For $129 it's disposable. A part of me almost waited for a new Oppo player, I should have waited. I love Oppo, but can't spend that much every couple years. |

Vincient talks Sony x700. Talks CES 2018 Sony's DV Stance on the x800.
CES 2018 Sony also said x800/1000es remains the Flag Ship model. Yeah BUT for how long??? Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 01-17-2018 at 05:07 AM. |

1000ES/800 flagship? Ok, for Sony. And do we know that Sony when they put all their chips they can build beautiful machines that spin shiny discs.
We live in a world of more affordable 4K BR players. ...More affordable 4K TVs. ...More affordable 4K receivers. Even certified 4K HDMI cables are affordable...they should be free, included in each box that comes with a 4K player. Dolby Vision? It's streaming now, and few 4K discs have it. curious :: will you be able to check/confirm Dolby Vision support (out of the box)?
at CES 2018 Sony constantly stated support (out of the box - now) yet :: i am reading many forums/posts otherwise that it does not (summer?) it makes no sense that it would take so long, as Sony also indicated that it has the Dolby Vision chipset (the previous UBP-X800 did not, thus unsuccessful processor support) it also makes no sense that in 2018 we will continue with Dolby Vision firmware support issues :: enough is enough note :: if you go to post #33 of this thread, Sony is clearly (CES 2018) indicating Dolby Vision Support "our first player with Dolby Vision support out-of-the-box" note :: if you go to post #82 of this thread, of course i also see that "Vincent" says otherwise (much later in the year) well :: with units already available (as expected) hopefully this will be cleared up immediately (clearing confusion) Last edited by jibucha; 01-21-2018 at 02:09 AM. |

![]() Support out of the box is NOT EQUAL to "enabled" or "activated" out of the box. So I think "support" is a weasel word for "we can support it once the FW update makes it enabled". ![]() That's just my take, but the very first time I read this it was my immediate reaction to their words. ![]() EDIT: EXCEPT if Sony does not sell this model until mid-year 2018 the DoVi feature may work out of the box because it does not hit market until that late in the year. If this hits retail in say March/ Spring, DoVi probably won't be enabled IMHO. :END EDIT Last edited by gkolb; 01-21-2018 at 04:45 AM. |

clarifying (as i disagree) :: not " support out go he box" :: rather "Dolby Vision out of the box"
clarifying (again) :: Sony, at CES 2018, clearly (additionally) indicated release of the UBP-X700 soon, in January 2018, not "spring/summer 2018" further :: the entire reason for my posting, to the quoted previous post, was that the person indicated shipping confirmation of the Sony UBP-X700, so i was hopeful to receive confirmation of "Dolby Vision - out-of-the-box" and not without it requiring another senseless "without Dolby Vision performance" awaiting yet another delayed later firmware update :: if so, i intend immediate purchase of several (Sony seems the best choice for a new affordable player in 2018 and i am interested) hoping that i did not "misread the post that i responded to" i look forward to confirmation 'one way or the other in the coming days' :: if not, i do not know what to say (perhaps sorry) Quote:

Going to apologise but I don't fully understand your post (guessing English isn't your first language, that's not meant as a slight, I don't even have a second language!) but I'm hoping this might answer your question.
The x700 has been released in the UK and someone over on another forum has one. It's NOT dv ready out of the box (he tried Cabin in the Woods, a DV disc and it just played back in HDR10). I'm looking at getting one, I need a UHD player and I want a dv capable one, even if that's down the line. I'm just waiting on reviews to see how 'budget' the x700 is. |

i had the LG and after appalling customer service and noisy drive I sent it back to amazon.
Now waiting for refund so I can buy the Sony. I do hope Sony are not as bad as LG and give us DV on time. For those of us who want DV now have no choice but to go for Oppo but I cannot justify the price tag so will wait. Panasonic player has no release date and I suspect they will release it once they can enable DV out of the box. |

Correct, Sony's X700 UHD/HDR BD player will launch in the USA next month. It will not have Dolby Vision out of the box and the update is expected in April. I am urging Sony to make the player DV ready sooner, so we'll see how this works out.
Panasonic will have two new UHD/HDR BD payers debut in July, but only the higher-end UB820 will support DV and it's planned to be DV ready out of the box. In fact, the UB820 will be the 1st true "universal" UHD BD player supporting HDR10, HDR10+ and DV. My company is one of the very few Panasonic dealers and I'll be bring in the 1st allotment. |

End of July, 2018
I spoke with Panasonic's chief BD engineer about this so I expect yes. |
