Cult and Crone only appear 3D on German Blu-ray 3D. There is literally nothing about them being 3D movies on the internet. Those should be autoconversions? Sleepwalker is native 3D and pretty decent with just a few poorly converted scenes, running through the woods.

It's worth noting that Out Of Inferno was released in Hong Kong with English subs - that edition is not so easy to get hold of now, but it is out there.

You bet it's not easy to get hold of. I was over the moon when I found a copy on eBay a couple of weeks ago, but it sold for £82! Wonder whether it was anyone here that put in the winning bid ... I have a copy of the French release, which lacks English subtitles.

Thanks for the detailed reviews! I got a lot out of your message Jason. There are some movies here that I had not heard of that are definitely on my radar now.

Your kids have the attention span to sit through animated movies that aren't in English? Haha. Do you have any feelings about Underdogs/Futbolin/Fussball?

The boys will watch anything in any language, but not my daughter. I use an old laptop to play the English friendly dvd versions with audio while the 3D is playing on the big screen LG with the sound muted. This is how I learned which English friendly versions are are totally uncut (i.e. Dolphin, Legend of Kung Fu Rabbit), which ones are off by a few frames (Rescue Rabbit) and which ones are aggravating with the numerous edits (Underdogs). I'd adjust the laptop playback on the fly when the dvd and 3-D go out of sync. Looking forward to the day when this is all a moot point after muxing everything.

I haven't watched Underdogs from start to finish, so I'll have to cry uncle. My oldest likes it a lot and has watched it numerous times. I'm not sure why I've been zoning out the animated movies lately, though I'm a huge fan of many of the Pixar, Disney, and Dreamworks titles over the years.

My apologies if I put too many turkeys on your radar. At 700 3-D's, I'm at the point where I'm getting all the 3-D content I can, and what's left are the foreign titles and the dregs (just ordered Spiders ).

I was on the fence with Spiders because of Patrick Muldoon, but when I saw it was directed by Tibor Takacs, I asked myself what am I waiting for.

Actually, having googled Takacs, it looks like he's had a productive and competent career, so sorry to all the fans of Takacs and I'll STHU.

Well, after years of wondering I finally took a look at .Hack. One of the more overlooked Japanese 3D films, especially since it had a theatrical release and for whatever reason was being compared to AVATAR by some. It uses a similar trick (storywise) as a Long Day's Journey into Night in that the main character uses glasses to enter into a different reality/world. Here's a review I had found online that sparked my interest;

.hack//Sekai no Mukou ni isn’t just a CG movie, it’s a CG movie made from the ground up in 3D, just like Avatar. I bring Avatar up on purpose, because the only movie that uses 3D on the same level as Sekai no Mukou ni is Avatar. Yes, you are reading this right: this movie’s 3D effects, and the immersion in a 3D world that stems from them, are on par with Avatar. .hack//Sekai no Mukou ni doesn’t have specific scenes in which you see glimpses of 3D. The 3D effect is always on. These effecs contribute plenty to the more boring real world, and when you get to see the online game The World in full HD and 3D you will be hard pressed not to be impressed. I’ll say this one more time: .hack//Sekai no Mukou ni looks amazing in 3D, and is probably one of the best movies that make us of 3D as a hook. And the immersion doesn’t stop there. The movie pulls you in in another clever ways. The characters use glasses (FMDs) to access The World, and when you watch the movie in 3D you use those glasses too. Those glasses that Sora puts on in order to immerse herself in The World? You’ll be wearing them throughout the whole movie. You don’t simply watch .hack//Sekai no Mukou ni; you experience it.

Anyhow, I wouldn't go that far but the 3D is very good. I'd say as good as Resident Evil Biohazard, maybe better? Sadly the Blu-Ray for this goes for more than Biohazard (it's on the same disc as the OOP 3D game), and there's no English support. You'll have to add your own subtitles, or find a version that has english subs (hint hint)....

Anyhow, since we're starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel it's worth seeking for people who have everything else. It's no slouch. The animation style is a bit dated but the 3D is cool

Sounds like the disc is a combination of a game and a movie. Do you need a Playstation to watch this or does the movie play in a disc player? How long is the actual movie content?

Thanks! This sounds like an interesting find!

I thought the 3D was super flat in .hack. Cool animation but not really worth a premium. I'd recommend Inazuma Eleven Go, One Piece 3D Straw Hat Chase, One Piece Film Gold, Toriko 3D, and Nutcracker Fantasy above it for better 3D.

Weird, I thought the 3D was nice. There was a ton of depth, but I guess to each their own. Some people love Godzilla King of Monsters 3D for example but for me that one looks flat.

Looks like it was his final movie directing.

Japan Turning Japanesa-- really think so! (Please forgive my French)

Received a bunch of titles from suruga-ya.com. Mostly used and not cheap. And most aren't English friendly with little hope of muxing. That being said, I finally obtained Garo Red Requiem in 3-D to marry with the US release. Woohoo!

I have never been so pleased with a used purchase. Every. Single. One. is PRISTINE! The playing surfaces are crystal clear and every little insert, card, poster, patch, 3D cover sheet is included. The boxes are in great shape. The shipping box and packaging from Suruga-ya.com were superb. It's my first order from them and I recommend them highly. It was shipped via DHL from Japan and delivered to California in 3 days.

Lastly, the only non_suruga-ya.com titles in addition to Garo Red Requiem (US release) are the two versions of The Rabbi's Cat. The French 3-D release was from an ebay seller (and they are still available) and the 2-D US release was from gkids.com.

Garo: Red Requiem is pretty goofy but has outstanding 3D. One Piece 3D: Straw Hat Chase is pretty good 3D. Inazuma Eleven Go (OLM) and Toriko: Gourmet Adventure (Q-Tec) are relatively good conversions. Easy recommendation for Nutcracker Fantasy and One Piece: Film Gold if you like those. Haven't seen Atashinchi, but it's a Q-Tec conversion as well. Always Sunset 64, Hayabusa, and Rabbi's Cat are fairly flat. Haven't seen May'n or G-Dragon. The Kamen Rider shorts from '89 and '94 are outstanding 3D, but the newer '09-11 ones are mixed with some decent native but mostly 2D and one with awful autoconverted 3D.

I own a version without subtitles. Pleasantly surprised though that after getting my Vero 4k+ working with 3d mkv, it can show the 3D with subtitles that Plex added from opensubtitle.org. Should open up alot of 3d movies that I didn't bother getting due to lack of english. I got the Vero 4K+ mostly to future proof if my region free player dies and also to have the whole collection to view without looking for the disk.

So this is perhaps a cheaper alternative then buying OOP blu rays.

Default Fast and furious

It's been a dizzying week and a half:

Truly an international effort. The top two rows are from Germany (medimops and jpc). The third row was from the good old USA-- the Criterion's and One Piece Film Gold from Target.com / HK titles CZ12 and Inferno from an incredible 3D buddy !!! Rows 4 & 5 are from Japan-- Suruga-ya.com.

The majority aren't English friendly but that's ok. I've plowed through most of the Japanese titles and none of the titles disappointed. In particular, my boys loved Kaibatsu-Kun. The Criterion King of the Hill and Tampopo are must see 2-D movies and it was pleasant to watch them finally in HD-- I can finally retire the laserdiscs! The HK titles (CZ12 and Out of Inferno) were even better the 2nd time around since they have English subtitles. Gonna start on Germany this weekend.

Japan 3D/PS3 hybrid discs

Continuing to add to the country's trade deficit with Japan courtesy of suruga-ya.com:

Tekken is playing right now and I'm surprised it has an English track and English subs. Hope the others are surprising in other positive ways.
