Yes, it helps that this title belongs to Paramount in North America so whatever happens with Disney is irrelevant.

Can't they just dump the version they showed in Dolby Cinema auditoriums the other year (saw both the 2D and 3D version)? Honestly, that already had the brights as bright as you'd ever possibly want them compared to the blacks. We'd get the much crisper 4k image and wide gamut and a bit of HDR. No need to go all beyond hyper HDR with it.

I don't get it either. Cameron already approved the 4K DV transfer for both 2D and 3D formats in 2017. What's left for him to go over? Is there something that needs to happen between the finished master and the home market besides new cover art or dare I say it, a new Atmos/DTS X mix? Paramount gave them to Gladiator (X w/Universal), Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, and Forrest Gump.

Paramount doesn't have anything else to do with a Cameron property outside of Titanic and I'm surprised they're letting him/Lightstorm sit on such a massive property when they've had a Cameron approved master for nearly three years. I can see the UHD becoming a reference disc similar to the current BD.

Do any other directors get final say on how their home video releases are handled? All I remember him saying is that they're not allowed to include previews or trailers for other movies when you slide in the disc.

Because any release or whatnot still requires Jim Cameron's approval, and he's been busy working on 4 Avatar sequels for the past 10 years plus COVID-19 delays. That is also why True Lies and The Abyss haven't made it to Blu yet.
