I'm probably going to get hate for this, but honestly the newcomers revealed so far are so disappointing to me. Don't get me wrong, i'm happy that they are in, but I just never cared much about Ridley, Castlevania, or King K. Rool in general. Other than Inkling, i'm much more excited about a returning Snake than any of the newcomers. That said, i'm liking everything else about the game so I can't wait to play it, but I rather would have wanted Bomberman, Zero or even Shovel Knight be playable instead. Sucks that they are relegated to being just Assist Trophies...

Well, French and German ratings are shows, so I'd say Europe as a whole.

Direct for people who didn't see it yet.

(This is the UK version, which is better, because they subtitle what Sakurai says, rather than do a bad English voice-over like Nintendo of America)

The game offers an insane amount of content though, not a big fan of the series myself but this may make me bite.

I had most of the big surprises spoiled due to Twitter notifications but I waited until I got home last night to watch the Direct with my son. His enjoyment was worth the wait. The thing he was excited for the most was training mode of all things. He wants to practice using Ridley so he knows what to do. Ah kids.

Favorite moments for me:
  • Simon Belmont - I absolutely love Castlevania and Simon is my favorite
  • Classic Mode
  • The Music - The Gallery especially but also the ability to choose game specific music to be used in a related stage

I can't wait for this to come out

What could this potential "spirit mode" be do you think?

Has to be some significance having Luigi spirit leave his body and then have a hidden mode with what looks like spirit pixelated out.

Who has a bunch of time on their hands and wants to make a list, separating characters based on series. I’m interested in knowing, at quick view, which series is most favored (I’m assuming it’s FE, there’s like a million of them in this game)

Now can we put this port nonsense to bed?
Honestly I think this is more or less a moot point.

I look at this game in relation to the last Smash game in a similar manner as I would Street Fighter Alpha 1, 2, and 3 to each other, or all of the 2D Marvel vs. Capcom games (starting from X-Men vs Street Fighter through Marvel vs Capcom 2).

In those cases, being 2D games, a lot of sprites for returning characters get reused. In some cases backgrounds are reused, maybe updated (other times they are all new). Things are rebalanced, new moves are added, etc. But clearly elements and resources from previous games are re-used to some extent or another. There are at least parts that are clearly not "built from the ground up." And that is fine. There's no reason to remake those things.

A lot of that likely holds true for Smash, just in 3D instead of 2D.

I don't know but when I saw that footage I was hoping that Nintendo was trolling everybody with announcing that it was a Smash Bros direct, and instead was surprising us all with a new Luigi's Mansion game in the works!

You know deep down when we finally get one it'll be an AR game on mobile.

Majora’s Mask uses a lot of resources from Ocarina of Time (character models, engine, etc.). Would you call Majora’s Mask a port?

Also you know darn well when the naysayers called it a "port" they were speaking in the same vein as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe -> Mario Kart 8.

Yes, most Street Fighter games reuse sprites from past ones, but that’s not what they meant by "port"

At this point in time, I thought this port nonsense ended. Thanks for bringing it back from the dead.

I'm not definitively saying that it is or isn't a port. I'm just pointing out the reality of it.

I would argue it to be a gray area.

He quoted my post in which I asked people to "end the port nonsense" and said it was a moot point. How was I suppose to interpret that? It was only logical I took it the way I did.

Considering the whole PSX vs PS1 debate from a while back, I'm a little sketchy on trusting your "logic."
