Just release Thing in a hybrid manner with the extended (inferior footage) version an option via branching. This is too classic a movie to remain without a HD release for as long as it has. And if they do find high quality elements of the other footage later -- big deal, that's life.

Hopefully this means some love was given to This Island Earth and The Mole People (a guilty pleasure for me, I know most people dislike it).

Due to the pure ownership of the designs and the lack of any actor likeness issues, Universal licenses out the Metaluna Alien and Mole People to folks like Sideshow, Diamond Select Toys, and now this year with Super 7 and their retro 3 3/4" action figures. It's frustrating that they are so heavily featured in the merchandise but neglected in their film releases. I had hoped they would have been included on the Creature legacy sets to bump up the film count (3 Creature vs 6 Invisible Man, but thrilled as punch to have 3D!)

With all the schlocky sci-fi movies Warner Archive has released to Blu-ray recently like The Black Scorpion, The World Without End, The Valley of Gwangi, From Hell it Came, and The Green Slime, you would think they would put out an influential classic like The Thing From Another World (a film on AFI's 100 Thrills list and in the Library of Congress's National Film Registry), but nope. Even with 16mm footage for some scenes, that's still not nothing, and if they give it all a proper new scan, it could at least look decent. If hell freezes over and they ever do find a 35mm print for those scenes, then well... that's just an opportunity to do a collector's edition reissue...

We also need It Came From Outer Space.

Not sure if you already knew this or it makes a difference, but the Kino Phantom of the Opera is the 1925 Lon Chaney version, while Universal has the 1943 Claude Rains version.

I think that’s why he said that. Most fans prefer the Chaney version. I do like the ‘43 version as it was the first POTO movie I had seen and Claude Rains is my favorite actor although I admit the film has flaws.

Hey Bob maybe you can shed some light on this. This is a neat original trailer for the first Creature yet the trailer compilation on the DVD and BD releases of the film haven’t included it. Do you know if it’s still in Universal’s archives??

Yes, they have it. I'm not sure why it wasn't included.

Well, I was holding off and yes, I'm glad I waited. I have the essential Blu-ray boxset and the Frankenstein/Mummy complete DVD sets. That was fine for me, but now I'll gladly buy this new set, not because it could be cheaper, but because they'll all be in the same package, in what will surely be the last release on Blu-ray.

Personally I prefer these recent releases of The Dracula films, the Mummy films, etc versus a big giant boxed set (which will probably have those awful cardboard "slip the disc in" sleeves.

Agreed. What's funnier are the people who take an apparently deep-seated and personal offense at the folks who wait to buy things or hope that what will probably be a 24 disc set will be sold reasonably. It's super gaudy.

If its anything like the DVD set from 2014 it won’t. They’ll simply put the individual Legacy sets all in one box.

Yep and for me it’s a bigger offense because people who criticize those who have waited and assume they just neglected to watch the films due to the wait need to get real. Someone said earlier he had all the DVD sets and was fine getting by with those but is now ready to upgrade. I’m all for getting the best out of the home video medium but when people almost suggest people shouldn’t watch the movie(s) period due to their choice of format I just find insulting.

We'll see when the promo release a picture of the set. You could be right and it might be a bulky set, but maybe it will be done right. Time will tell.

Yeah, but again, why arguing against someone else preference? People that got the original releases and happy with it should understand the need of others in wanting a unique box set, and vice versa.

What's truly important here is not how we wants the discs to be packaged, really, but that theses classic movies (made way before any of us were born) gets re-released and are bought by movie lovers like us. Who cares if we waited a little more to get them, at least, we'll get them!

I think the comments you reference were primarily directed at those that waited because they argued against having to buy sets that contained duplicates. If you remember, when the first two sets were released that was a hot topic, and it wasn't that some didn't want them right away, or that the initial pricing was too high, but just that they hated the duplication.

It was also debated how a complete set would be structured. Some were sure Universal wouldn't package duplicates in a complete package and that by waiting they would not only avoid duplication, but also get a more compressed set. However, others suspected Universal would follow the DVD model and just combine all the individual blu-ray sets (duplicates and all) into a box with a booklet.

While it is not yet known what the new complete set will look like, based on disk count it appears to just be a repackaging of the initial sets. If some that waited were primarily motivated by the removal of duplicates and shrinking of the overall package size, they will probably be disappointed. The comments are likely more about a vindication on who was right. I have a feeling that if it goes the other way (i.e., removal of duplicates) the comments will quickly be pointing the other direction.

I wonder if this set will include Tarantula, Deadly Mantis, Incredible Shrinking Man and The Land Unknown? If so, will they receive individual releases, with Digital Codes?

It’s only gonna have the 30 films from the individual Legacy sets.
