I'm very interested to learn about what are the barriers to just putting a release out like this on UHD 4k. It seems like a missed opportunity

Personally, I couldn't care less about UHD.

My guess is that the discs themselves are a higher cost to replicate at this time and the buying market still is a small percentage of people who own UHD players. I just got one a while ago but unfortunately don’t see much change in PQ on my UHD tv so I’m probably going to sell it :/

I can see the point of UHD for new movies. But for 40 year old movies shot in 16 mm for 100k, it’s pointless. How much more defined is that dead armadillo on the side of the highway in TCM really going to look.

Yeah, Diabolik specifically calls it a "lenticular slipcover" --

"Exclusive Limited Collector’s Edition includes Blu-ray, Extras DVD, Soundtrack CD, collectable booklet, reversible sleeve, and special 3D lenticular slipcover"

Wish I had seen that. It's $27.99 now. I love Diabolik but the shipping price never gets easier to bear, particularly when I'm used to (gasp) Amazon Prime free shipping

Course there's no reason why the extras can't be in blu-ray at SD.
In addition, I still haven't spot any information about the exact aspect ratio in this release (OAR 1.85:1 or 1.77:1, something else?), nor anything from the sound mix. Anyone else?

The thing about Amazon Prime is that they put it in a yellow mailer envelope and the slipcover will either be damaged or have creases. Couldn't take a chance on the lenticular slipcover so I will gladly pay the $5 shipping to be shipped in a sturdy box.

Anyone know if the soundtrack will have Goin To The Showdown on it? I remember the old AB tin not having it.

Oh Christ, this is the second time I'm quoting myself in this thread, but I finally found full specs!

How about that? Three months before release and already this 3-disc newly scanned set is cheaper than Vestron's cruddy Dagon old-transfer dumped on 1-disc set! Pre-Ordered!

The previous DVD and Blu-ray releases have. I still have my DVD-R dub of the LaserDisc release from 1995(?) that had it removed - at the director's request - and moved to the supplements, as a deleted scene.

Yeah, and that's the version I've allways preferred. I owned the (Elite?) LaserDisc back in the days when all the artwork(s) was glorious on the cover.

Not that I am expecting a UHD of this, but you've posted this cherry picked comment twice now. If you just realised that 4K isn't just about resolution, you wouldn't post these type of comments.
