Whether or not this is true, I would love to see The Little Mermaid and The Lion King in 4k. IMDB (although not totally reliable) mentions that The Little Mermaid has a Dolby Atmos track dating back to 2013 and is printed on 35mm film which means a true 4k release is possible. Imagine Disney traditional animation in 4K/HDR with Dolby Atmos. Some say overkill, but I say bring it on!

On another note, The Lion King and Wreck It Wralph are all but confirmed whereas The Little Mermaid has little to no news to back it up. I'm scratching my head as to why there would be an advertisement to 3 Disney films in 4K inside of Ready Player One.

A fun fact to take note of is that Lion King already has had at least 3 masterings already, 1 for the theatrical release/VHS/DVD.

And then for the 3D bluray release and for the IMAX release, which the latter is now the most used one. For those they went back and fixed up all the edges and repainted some scenes that would be glaringly obvious on a large high-res screen.

I say 3 because there is a difference between the two, in the scene where Simba talks to "ghost Mufasa" they removed the rolling clouds at the end!

No one knows why.

I'm assuming they just couldn't make it look good in 3D somehow.

I would assume all that would need to have been done is an upmix of the 7.1 mix to object based (bring on Be Prepared and the Wilderbeast Stampede!) and a new HDR colorgrade.

I am too. Especially, seeing as Ready Player One isn't even a Disney movie. It's not even in the same studio as Disney.

It was a retailer placed ad (Rakuten).

So the standard 4K release is legit but is the 4K/3D combo pack real?

You literally have no idea what you are talking about. There is various amounts of DNR is just about every single one of their films on bluray. I don't mind a very light touch of DNR to animation, but Sword in the Stone lol is DNR'd within an inch of its life. That's not just recoloring lol. There is no grain. And if it is recoloring in places well it's the same effect as heavy DNR then.
