They fired the guy who gave them Guardians of the freakin' Galaxy because of old tweets. Liam's old thoughts don't stand a chance lol

Showtimes are up for it. Early screenings start Thursday night. He did an interview on GMA that didn't do him any favors.

I doubt it was going to light the box office on fire to begin with, but I imagine people who were already interested aren’t going to be deterred.

Don't think this thing was going to make a whole lot of money in the United States anyway, and guessing most of the international audience doesn't care (going off of his last few action films that's where they're making most of their money now).

Red Carpet For Liam Neeson’s Latest Movie Canceled Amid Fallout From Racist Remarks

The premiere of Liam Neeson’s newest film has been abruptly canceled amid fallout from the actor’s comments about decades-old thoughts he had about killing a black person.

Organizers of the New York premiere of “Cold Pursuit” informed reporters of the cancellation Tuesday afternoon, a couple hours before it was supposed to start.

The cancellation comes hours after Neeson appeared on “Good Morning America” to address his comments, telling interviewer Robin Roberts that he is not a racist. He was quoted in an interview by the Independent on Monday describing his violent thoughts about killing a black person nearly 40 years ago after learning that someone close to him had been raped.

The problem here is that we live in a clickbait hashtag society that doesn't want Neeson's brand of brutal honesty. He tells an uncomfortable truth. He WAS racist (even if for a short time). He's not racist NOW (it was 40 years ago - that's older than most people on this forum) and regrets what he wanted to do and how bigoted he felt. In short, he condemns himself. He didn't need to be honest. He could have said nothing (and frankly would have been wise to do so). But if Hollywood blacklists Neeson and Twitterland tears him a new arse, won't that just discourage uncomfortable honesty and drive negative feelings (past AND present) underground? People have seemingly lost the ability to judge context. They hear a sentence like 'I was a racist and I regret it' and only come away with the words 'I' and 'racist'. This should be an occasion for discussion and soul-searching, not blind condemnation.

That's really silly imo. He was being honest and obviously said he realized how wrong it was. I mean Jesus people these days vilify everything today.

Personally I'm still pumped to see it. I am curious why he would have said these things given how sensitive people/media is today.

Yep that's social media and lackys that make up the minority of it that somehow turn everything into a scandal.

The real issue is everyone is a racist and sexist in some way yet the few that think they're not make it seem as though its some kind of horrible thing. It's only bad when taken to the extreme and violence erupts or you use it to oppress others.

What's silly? I said there probably wasn't much interest before the controversy, and what there was of it probably has not decreased because of the controversy.

The issue is that this was brought up at a press junket. Out of all places to talk something like this? Come on now.

I think he's getting a little more support the more he talks about it, and emphasizing it as a teaching lesson. Whether people want to permanently look at him differently now is up to them, but I still don't think his career is over or anything because of it.

I'm still very much interested in the movie.

The movie is a revenge thriller and he got talking about how revenge in real life is not great and we should all be aware of that - and he cited his own (horrific, on more than one level) example, showing in no uncertain terms he wasn't aiming to be preachy or come off with a know-it-all-Hollywood-superiority attitude. I think that's quite responsible in a way. I don't think he's stupid, I think he must have known he would face criticism, and some is probably deserved.

But. I still want to see this movie because I like Neeson as an actor and I don't think it stars a violent racist, I think it stars a man who once had disgusting, awful and deeply wrong thoughts (and almost actions) when presented with a horrific personal situation but expresses shame and regret for them even as he himself was choosing to volunteer the information.

And revenge thrillers, like horror movies in some ways, are a way for us all to experience certain emotions in a way that is safe and sometimes enlightening where in real life the consequences would be devastating. I think that was what he was getting it - opening up a discussion over why people enjoy watching horrible stuff, to put it bluntly. It's just his real-world example is particularly shocking. But perhaps that can end up being a good thing, if people don't just leap to the most surface-based conclusions.

Don't care if Liam flushed his particular set of skills down the toilet.

I want to see Tom Jackson on the big screen. Even though he is from Sask. he's almost a local. Saw Tom at the Stampede a few years ago.

I actually wasn't planning to see this until it was on streaming (still need to see Commuter now that it's on Prime), but the reviews are surprisingly good so I might check it out.
