As long as it's not any of those terrible TV shorts they've been doing since 2013... but 13 is definitely too few, especially if this is supposed to be a celebration. Plus the artwork is crap.

Amen! I want Walt era shorts, but I'd be OK with a few 80's to 2000's era.

The cover art is actually not bad in my opinion aside from the multiscreen crap. I think a better background color would have improved it though.

Holding this stuff back for their upcoming streaming service will never win me over. I will gladly pay money for Blu Ray sets, but I won't pay for streaming.

For the past few years, Disney has making some new shorts with Mickey and the gang. They air as in-between material on the Disney Channel and yes, they're on YouTube...along with those "Have a Laugh" creations.

Curious to know if you have inside information or are just repeating Disney's advertising. If the later is the case, Disney's use of "compilation" and "classic" should not put any golden age Disney animation fan at ease regarding this Mickey release. Ranging clear back to Disney's first shorts compilations on Beta and VHS, they have had no problem cutting opening and ending credits, censoring for content and length, and applying the term "Classic" to every thing they ever produced. Given that history, this Mickey release could range from incredible to terrible. While I would love to be more optimistic, I also fear that the cover art tells the tale. With half of the Mickey figures on display being other than from the classic theatrical shorts, the likelihood is very strong that at least half of the compilation will consist of newer animations of the modern Mickey from TV or who knows what.

I am not trying to be negative here, and would rejoice if we get a clean compilation of uncut classic theatrical shorts as most forum members seem to be hoping for. But as a realist, I also know what Disney is capable of on the downside. My enthusiasm will therefore remain cautiously tempered until we know exactly what this release will contain.

Personally, I think of them as more of a Ren and Stimpyfied version of Mickey and the Gang. It's a shame the upcoming ride at Florida's Hollywood Studios is being based around this version of the characters vs more classic versions.

I agree with this. I grew up watching Ren & Stimpy, and when I saw the new Mickey shorts, I immediately thought of R&S. The big similarities are the close up gross out paintings. I think that the new Mickey shorts are good for what they are, but they definitely don't pay homage to the legacy of the characters.

That's what I compare them too as well. My first thought after seeing a few of them at once was "I guess somebody from 90s Nickelodeon got a job at Disney now." The artwork and mannerisms just don't seem like Disney to me.

Absolutely agree. But, a lot of kids seem to go nuts for this interpretation of the characters so I can see Disney thinking of merchandise revenue as well.

On the Disney cruise ships they have a channel called "Classic Disney Cartoons"... but only play a selection of these newer shorts on a continuous loop. "Classic" indeed...

These are literally shows for children. They are not made for you and you don’t have to like them. This. My daughter has loved this since she was around 2 months old and she still enjoys it at almost 3 years old. I made her a Toodles out of foam discs for her bedroom and she adores it.

The animation is a little bleh (and never really got any better during its run, really), but as far as entertainment for its intended audience, it's definitely not "hot garbage".
