Hulu's "Veronica Mars" (Season 4)

I finished marathoning the series and film a couple of days ago and will be picking up the two novels from the library tomorrow (not sure why it’s taken me this long to read them). I am so ready for this.

The novels are great. Be interesting to see how the acknowledge the events that happen in them without making it be too much of a recap for the people who have read the novels, even though it’s probably a small audience.

The old stuff is up. They gave us less than a month to re-watch the first three seasons I understand that they want to hype their own season and that they can’t do it too early, but expecting us to catch more than two eps each day is a bit much.

That was on purpose. I was told they made the deal such that they might be able to delay some viewers in viewing the new season, by a week or even two. Apparently this is a trick they learned from Amazon. Their servers will crash if interest is too high and the number of S.4 viewers exceeds their expectations on day one.

I think this is an excellent strategy, in the year 2008....

They've completely forgotten how many teens, who've never even heard of VMars, will be sitting at home thinking, "That looks interesting, Ms. Bell's cool, they're all young and crap, just like me" or whatever kind of thing children think, when deciding to watch a show, because it is summer and kids no longer have social lives outside of school hours and time on the web. Kids will be through all three seasons by the time this goes live, probably a week in advance, leaving me to tune in sometime mid-August.

I got tired of waiting and bought it on iTunes since I wanted to rewatch the series in HD before the revival and it was only $30, but wow, it looks terrible!

Is it just like that on Canadian iTunes or what? Maybe the later seasons are better but the first two eps I watched so far look like a poor upscale of the DVD’s. The text in the credits isn’t even sharp.

I was wrong about the HD quality on iTunes. Only the first few episodes looked bad, the rest look great.

Enjoy it. Don't look at any spoilers. The season-long mysteries are actually really good on Veronica Mars so you don't want to ruin those for yourself. You'll love it.

It's been a while since I've seen it, despite having seen each season about 4 times... but season 3 had two arcs, didn't it?

I've re-watched seasons 1 & 2 endless times. I don't own season 3 on digital or DVD so I might re-watch that with the free trial Hulu is offering me again.

I have a friend who claims to have seen the entire series as many times as I've seen "A Good Day To Die Hard", not the crap they forced on us in theaters but the real movie they released as "The Extended Cut", a lie of a title if ever there was, given that it's a completely different film.... I tend to doubt it, as I outright lied to her about how many times I've seen this particular film, as the truth would shame and humiliate me, but, given the substance of that lie, that would mean that she has seen the series over twenty times.... What's my point? She has excellent taste and you should absolutely re-watch the third season before season four goes up. It is different, of course, college, as I'm sure you remember, but still really wonderful. I get the love of the first two, as there is just something about a great story set in high school, but season three had its charms. I hope you enjoy it, and season four.... Goodness, I can't wait for season four.

I never heard that about A Good Day to Die Hard. It makes me really curious, but not sure if I’m curious enough to put myself through watching any version of that movie again.

I don’t know about 20, but I’m sure I’ve watched all of VM at least 10 times.

Season 3 is really underrated and not just because it’s probably the best transition from high school to college I’ve seen on a TV show.

Kristen Bell did a new interview and basically confirms we will get plenty more seasons of Veronica Mars as long as Hulu keeps renewing it.

"I told [series creator] Rob Thomas that I will do Veronica Mars until it’s Murder, She Wrote,” the titular super-sleuth deadpans to TVLine, before adding, “I will keep doing this show until everyone in Neptune is dead. And then the big reveal [in the eventual series finale] is that Veronica‘s the criminal; she killed everyone!”

All joking aside, Bell sees “an endless life” for her alter ego, partly due to Thomas’ “commitment to reinventing the story” and also because “as long as the fans want more I will try to do it again.”
