Love 'em both, but Mifune is one of my all timers. Mifune: The Last Samurai is a must see doc.

Clint Eastwood or Charles Bronson

Agree. The documentary was a fitting tribute to one of the greats.

Both actors are my favorite but the former gets the edge for portraying:

[Show spoiler]

So I gotta go with the one and only Clint Eastwood.

Morgan Freeman or Denzel Washington

The latter has always been underappreciated given the lack of major starring roles but the former had some great films under his belt so:

Jet Li

Chuck Norris or Jean-Claude Van Damme

Both are my favorites from the 40's and 50's and while the latter was one I had a crush (who didn't?), I always felt more partial to the films the former had appeared in so:

Gloria Grahme

Clara Bow or Louise Brooks

Always loved the former's roles of being able to play gangsters and investigators, but nothing beats that latter's role on "White Heat". So:

James Cagney

Charlton Heston or Warren Beatty

Chuck all the way!

Michael Caine or Gene Hackman (bonus points for my subtle movie reference by choosing these two)

Oh man... This is a tough one as they're both great character actors and as much as I appreciated the former's portrayal of gangster Jack Carter along with his performances as Dr. Robert Elliott (a.k.a "Bobbi") and Alfred Pennyworth, nothing beats the latter's performance as "Popeye" Doyle and Little Bill so I gotta go with:

Gene Hackman

*And I assume the movie reference between the two actors you're referring to is "A Bridge Too Far".

Albert Brooks or Bill Murray

Always enjoy Albert Brooks but, for me, Murray is in a class by himself.

Bill Murray

**A Bridge Too Far is a damn good guess. However, I was referencing the forgotten comedic gem from the early 90's, PCU. It's about a preppy New England college and the antics going on. One scene has a student talking about his senior thesis based on the "Caine/Hackman Theory". The theory being at any given time, on any given day, you can always find a Michael Caine or Gene Hackman movie on TV **

Olivia de Havilland or Vivian Leigh

Ha! That is a subtle reference. I gotta check out that film.

While the former is a very good actress who was often overshadowed by her sister, the latter appeared in some landmark films including "Gone with the Wind" & "A Streetcar Named Desire". So:

Vivien Leigh

Michelle Yeoh or Maggie Cheung

Both are great but Maggie's performance in In the Mood for Love is truly sublime.

Maggie Cheung

I take nothing away from the former as he appeared in some iconic features such as "My Darling Clementine" and some noteworthy noirs like "Kiss of Death", "Pick-up Alley" (a.k.a "Interpol") & "Violent Saturday". But the latter appeared in two features that I've admired and they happen to be the quintessential film noir: "The Big Combo" and the ludicrous thriller: "The Naked Prey". So:

Cornel Wilde

John Wayne or Clint Eastwood

Seriously?! Impossible task. In the end, however, it's a choice between the hero and the antihero. And, I do love the antihero.

Clint

Harry Dean Stanton or Steve Buscemi

Fantastic character actors who've mostly worked in supporting roles with a few starring roles in independent features. But I always enjoyed the roles of that latter in the Coens features. So:

Steve Buscemi

Love both muses of the late great Ingrid Bergman, but I'd probably give the former a bit of an edge for her work on "Persona". So:

Liv Ullman

Dennis Hopper or Jack Nicholson
