Well, things went from bad to worse...
![]() Went to check my settings and now the remote has stopped working... switched batteries, front and back IR receivers do nothing... I can't operate the menu from behind the wall because I can't see what I'm doing... going to have to rig something up with cameras to do this I guess. JVC support recommended taking it in for service, I really don't want to be without it right now, we are watching a movie pretty much every night with it! |

Your unit should still be under warranty, so it should be no problem having JVC send you a new one. I thought that's what they did with these now?

It is under warranty... JVC told me to take it in for service and to bring my receipt. I called the service centre and they said turnaround time was about a week unless they have to wait for parts. They said any repairs should be covered.

Had to take my JVC 950 there for repairs as my power source went on me. Would randomly just shut itself off, and caught it on video for the JVC guy answering my email enquiries. The place is a small hole in the wall across the street from the Highland Farms store. Asked for my info, stuck the photocopy of my receipt for the projector to show it was still under warranty. (and I think an email with reference to the store from JVC themselves) Took 5-7 days to fix but I had no issues with it since it was repaired before moving onto my NX7 purchase last November.

Just a heads up that JVC plans to provide another free DTM HDR update soon.

Thanks Dirk504! I am really looking forward to this, although I already love my RS-2000 (NX7) since the Dynamic Tone Mapping update.
I'm still amazed every time I watch a UHD and I've had it over 1 year & 4 months! |

Hi Robert Isn;tthe only difference between the 8200 and 9000 is the audio section. The video section is identical? If you have a high-end speaker setup then an hdmi passthru is the only requirement for the audio section of the 8200/9000 player |

For argument’s sake, There is one Main difference, which is a low-nit projector preset that is not available in the 820. There are other differences but I don’t want to get into them.

So we have info on the update. Copy and paste job from avsforum
JVC has announced its latest firmware update that applies to its DLA-NX5, DLA-NX7, DLA-NX9, DLA-RS1000, DLA-RS2000 & DLA-RS3000 projectors. With this free update, JVC owners will receive an improved implementation of Frame Adapt HDR, as well as a new feature called Theater Optimizer. JVC says the Frame Adapt HDR function builds on the dynamic tone mapping prowess of the original release (October 2019). The company says "With the updated version, 4K HDR10 streaming, games and Blu-ray content are automatically adjusted for optimized brightness, color and detail on a frame by frame or scene by scene basis." By analyzing peak brightness levels in source material, Frame Adapt HDR is able to optimize settings for individual frames or scenes, in real time without user intervention. However, there is easy user adjustability, JVC says it responded to user requests by increasing the number of Strength settings for Frame Adapt HDR From 3 to 5. The Theater Optimizer Takes information provided by the installer or integrator or user including screen size and gain. It is able to calculate lens zoom, lamp condition and other settings and adjust the projector for optimum performance, taking this all into consideration. It works in conjunction with Frame Adapt HDR to maximize the performance of each individual projector within the given viewing environment. JCS notes "18-bit level gamma processing is maintained while the feature is in use, bringing out deeper blacks in darker scenes, and higher peak whites in brighter scenes, along with the most realistic color, to reproduce high precision images with smooth gradations." Firmware Upgrade Summary: 1. Theater Optimizer smart function, analyzes the usage environment for each user, and displays HDR content with optimum brightness.* 2. New Settings & Menu Structure Brightness levels settings are increased to five steps for the Frame Adapt HDR function (was previously three steps). New Content Type menu, which displays usable Picture Mode based on each input signal. Only the Picture Mode matching the input signal can be selected, preventing image distortion due to gamma and color gamut mismatch. Function which automatically switches to the optimal Color Profile according to the color gamut information of the content. Added Auto Pic. Mode Select function transitions according to each input signal (SDR/3D/HDR10/HLG). *Theater Optimizer function is valid only in "Frame Adapt HDR" picture mode. JVC says this firmware update will roll out in mid-November 2020 |

I was told by the sales person that very little is required from the player itself since the JVC performs all of processing(via updated firmware) which once was a shared process with the panasonic 820/9000. |

So to maximize the picture quality with physical discs and a JVC projector, does one need the 820 or 9000? Or does the DTM update now negate the "nits" setting for the Panasonic players? I currently have a 420 and am wondering if I need to upgrade.

No. You have to turn off the optimizer in the 820 or 9000 anyway. DTM does it's own thing and it's fantastic.
