If it was just a cameo, why would they announce "HEY SYDNEY SWEENEY'S IN OUR FILM"? I think she's probably gonna be Julia Carpenter.

Also, I still think Samara Weaving would be a way better choice for Felicia. Though I do agree Sydney could have made a good Mary Jane.

She could have a leading role in the film, but even it was a cameo they'd still announce it to the trades because Sydney Sweeney is popular actress right now and they want to draw more positive attention to the film. It's not the first time a studio has announced a major actor for a film even though it was a cameo.

I really think Sony has to be reconsidering their Spider-Adjacent films after Morbius. More Venom, sure. I'd even put money on them bringing back Garfield for some sort of crossover. But clearly they can't turn every D-list villain and supporting character they can get their hands on into a success, at least not the way they're doing now.

But were the reshoots the result of not being happy with what they had? Reshoots are trying to fix the bad, not the cause of the bad.
