I really enjoyed this movie when I watched it on Sunday. I thought it was very respectful of Kubrick's work while having its own interesting story. There were a lot of cool shots in it and the Atmos soundtrack was great. Will definitely be getting this in 4K.

I also liked the film...a LOT. Saw it with 4 people who ALL enjoyed it as well. I'll pick this up on day one.

I saw the film today and liked it quite a bit, but unlike the first film, which had multiple meanings (a story about writer's block being one of them), the new film really only works as the literal story that it portrays. Not particularly scary if that's what you're looking for, but aspects of it are indeed creepy. I didn't find the first film scary either.

It does replicate a lot of scenes from the first film, sometimes uncannily, but I liked that aspect of it.

My local Laser IMAX never got this. Annoyingly it's still on Terminator, but it switches to Ford v Ferrari this week (which I'm looking forward to).

The Dolby Atmos mix in a Dolby Cinema was amazing. It’s not an action movie but there were a lot of nicely discrete and atmospheric effects that used the top layer with drooling effects. Made the whole thing more creepy and intense.

I liked the film a lot too. I have a problem with the fate of one of the main characters but otherwise this was an extremely well done horror film. Very character driven which made the stakes even higher. And I really liked how they develop the mythology of the Shining (the ability) and directly use it in the plot, nicely building upon the original while earning the nostalgic climax with everything that happens beforehand. It’s sad it didn’t do better at the box office. No wonder we get some really crappy horror films sometimes.

I'm not sure how these bookings are arranged but given Dark Fate's poor opening I can only imagine it's second week on premium screens was either secured before release or the distributor pushed to keep it in more expensive theaters to recoup losses. It's a shame that WB didn't get wide IMAX releases for both Doctor Sleep and the new 4K remaster of The Shining. This is one of those instances where I think the distributor failed the movie.

I'm doing Ford vs Ferrari at my Dolby Cinema but the Knives Out trailer last night looked bonkers on the IMAX Laser screen.

I wish the steel matched The Shining one a little more. Oh yeah, like the standard edition.

And the steel here matches the standard edition for the Shining better.

Phew! It's always hard for me to make it to the theater to catch a movie but it was even tougher with Doctor Sleep since the weird Dolby Cinema schedule at my local theater kept this from appearing in any matinees. Luckily there is one final DC showing of Doctor Sleep tomorrow and it is finally a matinee. Looking forward to checking it out before I forget too many details from the book.

So, from the covers of those two, I am to take it then that Doctor Sleep has something to do with The Shining?

You'd be wrong. It's actually a sequel to Marvel's Doctor Strange.

WHAT?!?!?! I thought the Doctor Strange sequel wasn't due out until 2021? I'm seeing this tomorrow and I'm now even more excited. This is terrific news. 3 Marvel movies in one year? How awesome is that.

It’s not a Doctor Strange sequel.....
That one doesn’t come out until May 2021.

This is a sequel to The Shining.....

I’m still thinking Warner may cancel a 4K disc release because of poor boxoffice results......but we’ll see.
