Are there going to be more sandworms in the second part? That would be great.

“I just received news from Legendary that we are officially moving forward with Dune: Part Two,” Villeneuve said in a statement. “It was a dream of mine to adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune and I have the fans, the cast, and crew, Legendary and Warner Bros. to thank for supporting this dream. This is only the beginning.”

“Legendary is pleased to officially move forward with Dune: Part Two … once again based on the amazing books written by Frank Herbert,” Legendary said in a statement. “We would not have gotten to this point without the extraordinary vision of Denis and the amazing work of his talented crew, the writers, our stellar cast, our partners at Warner Bros., and of course the fans! Here’s to more Dune.”

Great to hear things are going ahead with part 2, planned for October 2023 at the moment with Theatrical release only for a period of time before streaming for Dune Part 2.

Question

For those who read the book, do you think they'll be able to comfortably handle everything else required to complete the story in part 2 of Dune? Say in 2.5 hours?

I haven't read the book but Lynch's version spent about 90 minutes for what we saw in part one of the new movie and 45 minutes for everything else.

Okay, thanks. That gives a little more perspective.

That reminds me of Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the Rings animated film.

Thankfully this film will have time to complete the story then, plus they have been planning it from the start. I can imagine some details will be left out at some point.

Keep in mind Lynch’s version really rushed through the second half of the book, even then the end of the actual book always felt rushed to me. I could see part 2 being 3 hours easily.

Yes but I hope he takes a full 2.5 to 3 hours to do it, I love Villeneuve's pacing on this.

Pretty much. All of the exposition was spent on Part I, or most of it. Part II will be rock n roll, or most of it. That'll be 5 hours worth or even more. I think it'll be 2hr 45mins.

What if he decides to split the rest of it into two movies?

I imagine 1 hour-ish will be spent on
[Show spoiler]Paul becoming a Fremen then leading them. This time will also include Paul and Channi relationship. Alia will take up like 20 minutes. We will probably see 15 minutes of Jessica becoming the official sister of the Fremen. 15 minutes on Paul really hitting the spice and his powers of prescience expanding. Paul and his mom have to drink the worm juice....A whole lotta worm wrangling. That should leave 20 ish minutes for the final battle, Pauls fight with....and negotiations with the emperor.
Lets GOOOoooo

Curious about the Emperor casting. I don't remember his description in the book.
