Good thing I bought it a couple of days ago. I never would have paid that much for it.

Yeah, me neither. So glad I caught it much cheaper.

Even though I have been a fan of “The Munsters” since I was a kid watching it on Nick at Nite and I have owned the DVD set for years, I had never seen the feature film until now.

It obviously isn’t as great as the show, but I found it to be a lot of fun. I didn’t even mind the recasting of Marilyn. Seeing The Munsters in color was interesting, but it loses the classic Universal monster movie atmosphere of the black & white. Also, the HD scan show how the blue/green makeup and application quality varies. The only thing that I found surprisingly weird was the absence of the laugh track. Since I was so used to it while watching the show, it not being there after very joke made the timing and pace seem awkward.

I am listening to the commentary right now. Love that they got Rob Zombie as he has clearly been an enthusiastic fan of the series for years. The moderator mentions that they were working on a feature on the Dragula, but it isn’t on the disc. I wonder what happened. It’s a glaring omission because people LOVE that car.

Despite the lack of major extras, the inclusion of The Munsters Revenge was a great bonus. I know it isn’t a fan favorite, but I have to confess that I might actually have liked it as much, if not more, than the main feature.

I actually think it plays better when I turn my TV to B&W instead. It looks more natural to me.

As Zombie points out in the commentary, the TV series had a “Universal monsters” feel with the black & white while the color in the movie has a Hammer feel.

Am I also the only one who isn’t a big fan of Grandpa’s overly done eyebrows in the film compared to the show???

Yeah...they DID change the makeup which was immediately noticeable. What's weird is, they went straight from the final episode of the series into this film, meaning, sever changes should not have been made. They should still look like they did in the series...but Grandpa IS different.

Played The Munsters Revenge (lossy Dolby Digital sound is all that is offered) last night and most of the other bonus materials. Jo McDonnell (Marilyn) was hot in this movie. She was 31 at the time. I liked the Los Angeles scenery including a clear shot of a Golden State Sanwa Bank sign. I still have my old credit card from that bank. No longer usable of course. I enjoyed the color and would never set my TV to black-and-white like some people are doing (don't know how to anyway).

I'm kind of surprised most of the Munsters' movies weren't bundled together. Like Universal did.

Of course, Hammer... I think I'm answering my own semi-quandary here: Shout! are very money-grubby. (Not sorry.) Again, Universal bundled those movies. As did Sony. As did Warner. They really understood the thing about not everyone being rich. I paid less than $20 I think for those 8 Universal Hammer movies on DVD, Shout! is just sticking the knife in, deep, and with no love- over $25 a piece for those movies. It's like they wanted to do this with the Vincent Price movies all along and never had the guts but now they've got that strait-jacket weasel from Roger Rabbit working for them... (methinks it's a possibility)

God, did they ever hit the jackpot on Hammer, too... they got 'em all it'd about seem. And those prices are just terrifying.

I guess that's not much about the Munsters (which is hard to spell fast without typos btw). Hmmm.

Shout did bundle the two Munsters movies with the original cast though, which was the same bundle Universal did. And the only other Munsters "movie" that ever got a DVD release was the Christmas special.

I just saw the cover and assumed it was only the cover for Munster, Go Home!

Not with the original cast. Or the revival cast. The Munster's Scary Little Christmas

I am really out of the loop i guess and had no idea this came out! just ordered mine and didn't realize it was a double feature till i read the comments on here. It didn't say anything about it on amazon's site. I'm hoping that if this sells well they will do the complete series next!

Since Universal didn't bother to release this film, I doubt they'd bother to release the series themselves. Maybe they'll give it to Mill Creek to release.
